Clean install of Sys files, Lancing using defaults, followed by reboot.
Still the same I'm afraid...

Very odd - it is the fonts not loading, right?
Hi Phil,

Font problems have been reported to Microsoft. Have a look at the fix and see if it fixes your problem. Click here.

UKTrainMan:

Yes that's similar, except on mine, everything is text, including signals and straight track (see picture).
As you say, makes for a challenging sim!

Barry:
That fix appears to be for XP rather than Win7.

I am running XP consequently I have given you my display. Windows detects the version you are running before it brings up the article. For me it states:
System Tip
This article applies to a different version of Windows than the one you are using. Content in this article may not be relevant to you.

Any problem, Do a Google search for "Fonts Not Displayed When Installing New Fonts - Microsoft Support"

UKTrainMan brought up a point that I'd forgotten - internationalisation (Chinese, Thai, Hungarian etc). However, looking at your picture I can see that it's not the issue here, despite the symbols.

But the symbols do indicate the fonts not being provided to SimSig. All SimSig does is say "I want font SimSigV2" and Windows gives you a handle for it. It deals with stuff like multiple fonts in one file, different sizes, alternatives, etc. That you can open up Notepad and "type" in the SimSig font is very strange for that same font not to be available elsewhere.

It doesn't matter where you install the program as the fonts always go into wherever Windows deems the fonts should go. Nobody gets a choice in that matter - it's determined by Windows.

Please can you check again the version number of the system files you downloaded? Do you have another computer/laptop you can try it on?

Sys Files downloaded is v3_248_2.exe.
My old version is 2_233_1, but even reinstalling this doesn't make Llangollen work as it once did.

I've checked notepad again as I hadn't actually tried typing the fonts before, just selecting them.
However I can type the symbols.
Just out of interest, from notepad, I can get the fonts shown in the picture - although one has no (printable) name.

I googled "installed font won't show up" which comes up with a lot of pages where people seem to have similar issues. However, scanning through a few of them I can't find anything immediately obvious that might be useful.

You wrote a while ago that you had uninstalled the old files then re-installed. Did that include uninstalling the fonts? If not (and as a very long shot) could you try uninstalling/deleting the fonts then re-running the installer for the system files. This should put the fonts back and may revive the correct links to them.

It's clutching at straws at this stage, I'm afraid.

SORTED!!!

Postal - You're a star!

When I deleted the fonts, they still appeared in the directory, so after a bit of Googling, I discovered that
Win 7 does have some quirks with deletion of fonts and non-ability to delete them properly. I guess this must be what happened.

So, following advice, the correct action for anyone getting this problem in the future is:

1. Open C:\Windows\fonts
2. Delete all Simsig Fonts. (Don't worry if they still appear in the list).
3. Log off your machine (no need for restart).
4. Log on.
5. Run Simsig Installer. (no need to uninstall first)
Job done.

Many thanks to all who have spent time scratching their heads to help me on this.

Way to go John.

I looked at the font names Paxton posted and thought they looked odd as one font name had a weird character in it. I couldn't check what my machine said as a comparison as my SimSig machine was at home and when I did eventually get home I was so into doing my dev work that I completely forgot to check.

Still glad you are sorted Paxton.

I am still having problems with this. I deleted all Simsig fonts as pwer above. I uninstalled SinSigLOader
i reinstalled and updated. Still getting text rather than track layout in all Loader sims plus extere, but not in older pre-loader sims such as Bristol, Carlisle. This is all very frustrating. Running Windows 8 on an Acer laptop Aspire E1-571

Previously reported in this thread I have looked for updates for the graphics card (Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
) but none to be found

I have Windows 8.1 and Simsig has installed 7 Simsig fonts in C:\Windows\Fonts. Does your version of Windows show them?

Another thought. Could your Antivirus program be causing your problem?

I don't believe so. I can run older simulations such as Bristol, Royston, Worksop and those recognise the fonts and appear normal. it is just the newer simulations, which use the loader programme that do not display correctly,

uninstall everything, then try right click the .exe, runAs Administrator on the loader install, and the individual sim.exe files as well.

Do you have a partitioned Hard drive? If so, try installing the loader in another drive.

No, there is just one hard drive and it is not partitioned

Pretty sure it must be, I don't think Windows will work without at least one partition, generally it'll use two or three.

Well, there are no partitions showing, see the attached image.

Sacro is correct your drive must have a partition (In this case your C: drive) however when most people are asked about partitions they think that there must be at least two.

So how would I find this other (invisible to me) partition?

My point was every drive must have one partition, and in your case there is only one.

Windows 8 pre-installed? There'll be a GPT partition (mandatory), Windows basic restore partition (around 100MB), and then the actual partition you have mounted as C:, also if it's an OEM machine there's perhaps a system restore partition too.
