Is it possible to include "flicking" track circuit failures with the resulting changes of aspect?

By flicking do you mean intermittent with the TC dropping in and out? Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

I can't see the value of this. Any driver seeing unusual aspect sequences would stop and phone the box, so it's no different to a permanent failure really (vide Clapham). Ray Log in to reply |

It would add a further level of realism.

I agree, but within the bounds of Simsig it's a bit marginal. On a TC failure driver calls from a red signal and is authorised by if appropriate. S&T are on the case. On an intermittent TC failure driver stops and calls from a signal to report irregular/adverse aspect sequences and is authorised by if appropriate. S&T are on the case. Or am I missing something?? From a 'realism' point of view if it's possible for the signal box to have a flaishing TC indicating an intermitent fault then I can't see the problem in SimSig replicating that. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

A real flashing TCF (i mean simulating the TCF itself rather than just the display) would mean a continuous aspect change and a lot of "xXxx received an adverse change of aspect" situation which would reset the score in a second

That then brings in another feature. If a signaller has a flicking tcf, then they would stop the train on the signal in rear and advise the drivr to expect a COA on the signal protecting the tcf, this woukd require an addition to list of reply's to phone calls from drivers.

I find all this a bit academic. It's not much of a challenge replying to imaginary phone calls from imaginary drivers about imaginary intermittent TC failures. The real challenge is to find workarounds or alternative routes to overcome such failures??? BTW I have no idea what deductions are made for replacing routes in front of trains, however the shortcomings of the current Swindid for example, where routes are set from stations way ahead of departure times make these replacements almost de rigeur. You can always turn off the ARS or collar the departure signal if you don't want to cancel routes set unnecessarily early.

Well that is certainly an excellent suggestion, which I have been using for quite some time. Of course switching off ARS certainly adds to the realism (not) and collaring the departure signal when you have about 35 trains in the area (and about 5 failures) certainly creates a challenge when you forget to uncollar it at the appropriate time. Depends whether the challenge you want is cancelling the route in front of a train or remembering to set a route at the due time. All adds to the fun

On flickering TCs this idea does seem to have become surpringly controversial. Whether it happens or not will be down to Geoff or Clive and how easy it would be to code anyway. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |
