Hello all,

Just one more fix I need to do on my timetable is adjust the relevant freight to Duddeston Junction, as I cheated and just used Washwood Heath, but this clogs up paths for freight passing through on the GL coming from the north.

Does anyone know what the path would be for running around at Duddeston Junction? I thought maybe they go into the Camp Hill U&D Through Siding, but I don't know what locations I need for the loco to run around as the ones I tried don't work.

Any help is appreciated

Easiest way to explain it is to look at the existing TT, but basically between sigs 212-479; RR loco reverses behind sig 467 (U&D Camphill Thro Sdgs) and 214 (U&D Gds).

That is what I've been using, but that appears to be Washwood Heath No.1, and I'm not sure it's the right location, as it holds things up. I'll give an example, timings/headcode made up, but real locations/path used as per WTT:

6E00 comes from Water Orton, traverses Castle Bromwich GL, and then is:

Washwood Heath No.1 18/24
Duddeston Jn 18.27 - 18RR51
Washwood Heath 18/54

And then back to Water Orton. However in the meantime, 6V00 appears from Water Orton, using the GL from Castle Bromwich through to Landor Street Jn as booked, but the timings are:

Washwood Heath No.1 18/35
Landor Street Jn 18/41

As you can see from the example, 6E00 is on the Down Goods, but 6V00 can't pass until the run round is complete and the train sent out the way early.

I set all my trains to run round at Washwood Heath as per the supplied timetable, however I get a pathing collision on some trains, like 4G65 runs round at Duddeston Jn, but is in the way of a through freight train booked to use the GL.

Two options:-
1) 6V00 needs to be booked (or left to sigger's nous) to run ML to Duddleston Jn, then GL to Landor St Jn (ie via S208-206);
2) simply has to wait on GL @ S218 till 6E00 completes.

I guess IRL it's one of those for the sigger to work around, indeed when working Centre panel I've asked North to send non-RR trains ML to avoid a delay. Most likely that as freight trains, a bit of early/late running means they're run 'flexibly'.

hmm I'm still not sure IRL that is where they run around, as that isn't Duddeston Jn. I guess there might be some changes to the signalling maybe too that means they can now run round at Duddeston instead of Washwood Heath perhaps...

I have sent freight early from running around at Washwood Heath before, unfortunately it can mess everything up sending trains early, though it's quite easy to get yourself in a pickle on this timetable!

In SimSigland, a junction location is at the last signal before the location, so Duddleston Jn will be at sigs 208/212 (down).

Not sure whether it works (due to track lengths, paths etc) could be between S469-456, with the RR via S453/5 and S474 (or 208/212), but I suspect not enough length between 469-456.

Hmm, I think the first stage is to see where the train might fit, then see if there's a run round path.

I'll ask about if anyone has seen a train run round and knows where it does so, this is where a map on OTT would help

And indeed real life, funnily enough.

The signalling may well have changed since mid-2000s or whenever it was resignalled.

According to the manual, Washwood Heath Loop DG SY212 - 479 is 661 metres.

Glad I found this, as I was struggling with the description "Duddeston Junction" to mean "Up & Down Camp Hill Through Siding", on the TT!

In real life there are numerous clashes with the run rounds at Washwood Heath, which up until recently was made worse with the lack of a headshunt / eastern access to Hams Hall.

The signaller will often run trains down the goods with then 'main line reliving' at the risk of putting delay into XC services.

If the UD goods is in use already in real life the Washwood Heath reception lines are used for running trains round, however I am not sure if this would be possible with how the Saltley SimSig works.

Look at 4M11 and 4O90 as a regular example of this clash.
