Hello chaps, I'm running the Kings Cross simulation with the big multi-day timetable. I have train 1t92 arriving at platform 8, which is booked to join 3P24. However, I have 1T92 already in the platform and I'm trying to signal 3P24 into the platform to join but it's overlength. What can be done, short of manually adjusting the length of one train or another? And for whomever wrote this timetable, perhaps the platform should be changed? ADH Log in to reply |

You could talk the train passed the signal, but it would stand foul of the starting signal on the end of the platform. Not ideal, but if it is not there for long you might get away with it. Other options could include abandoning the TT of the trains and moving them both to a clear platform then reinstating the timetables. What can be done, short of manually adjusting the length of one train or another? You can talk the train past signal at danger. In this case, it should be OK as the trains combined have 240 m, which should be just fine for P8. The overlength indicator is not precise. You can check which track circuits are occupied (in the F11 screen), that should give you an idea why are you getting the overlength indication. I'd be curious myself if it isn't related to other circumstances, like the actual path taken by the second train. You should check twice, however, that there isn't a third train in P8 taking up precious space. Note that in case the train doesn't fit, it not only blocks the access to other platforms, but quite often fails to join with whatever it should. Log in to reply |

The train overlength indicators may activate for a couple of trains in the TT, however this is an issue with the sim (as previously mentioned it is not precise). If you follow the booked platforms then no service will overhang a platform on this TT. Authorising the driver to pass signal at danger when he rings will overcome the issue with no problems. Okay, thanks all for the tip. I tried to talk the train past the signal. It then gets to signal 14 (which is a ground signal) and it now absolutely refuses to move past this signal. I've tried abandoning the timetable and talking it past, and talking it past in the F2 menu and it stubbornly refuses to move. Any tips? Alex Log in to reply |

Sounds odd. Does the driver ring in as standing at K14? Can you clear K14 into P8 - i.e. set the route normally and not pass him at danger? (You will need to cancel the route first from K292 if it is still set)

Do you happen to have a save around that demonstrates this problem? I never had problems talking trains past the shunting signals at KGX, only with the consequences. That was on the old exe sim, though. Seems like you genuinely have the platform full, or the other train at a wrong end, but even in such circumstances I've always managed to shoot myself in the foot successfully. Log in to reply |

Okay, if I can figure out how to upload a save I will do so in a sec. I can't manage to get this train past!

OK i've had a look and managed to get it past and join ok. I reversed the train to the down direction and re-instated his TT with the next location being Kings Cross. Reverse him again back to the up direction. He will stop at K14 and ring in 'no obstruction found' (I guess you got him to examine the line past K292) and then he'll proceed into 8 and join.

Ah, many thanks! The text on these things is awfully small on occasions, I think I mashed the wrong button when trying to persuade him to pass the signal in the first place. Whoops. All this trouble because I pressed the wrong button. Thanks anyway. This is going to be a fun timetable, I think.
