There is probably a bit of relevance in this to the real world, but it's more for those chasing a score on SimSig. If you have a train approaching a junction for which you have realised that you have inadvertently (or stupidly) set the wrong route, is it better in SimSig score terms to incur an Adverse Change of Aspect penalty by putting the signal back in front of the driver or should you wait for the telephone call? And in the real world, what would really happen? IANAS but I'd suspect that 100% of drivers would prefer to slow down and alert the signaller that the route is wrong rather than have their aspect suddenly drop to red! What the driver does the real world I'd guess would be junction dependant, things to consider are advance warnings of route such as splitting distants and the like, the driver might not even realise till it's too late to stop! Depending on where the train is replacing the signal could then cause a SPAD. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

I agree with Sacro - seeing a signal drop to red in your face is not very good for driver blood pressure! Passing it however would not be classed as a serious SPAD, but a SPAD nevertheless. The signaller should be able to judge whether the driver has the signal in sight. Of course signals in rear will go to a more restricitve aspect anyway. It's not much use putting back very late as the SPAD will probably lock the route anyway. The driver should recognise "wrong route" and stop. If not there is a further complication alluded to in this forum, in that he may stray on to a route he has not signed for. I think he would than have to await a competent driver before proceeding. Now that would definitely add to the frustrations... just like the real thing! Maybe this should be in features wish list (or is that features not to wish for list ). Log in to reply |

I think I rember it bieing on the old Forum, the discossion seemed to mainly directed at the sheffield simulation with regards to Swinton And Thrybergh. I personally feel that drivers not bieng signed for certian rougts would be an intresting feature that would make the simulations even more realistick. However I feel that SPADs should not be included due to the serious nature of them, However if a SPAD was to be included if you set a signal to red in a drivers face and the train ran into the protected section and maby phoned to have authority to proceed or return backwards to the signal passed it could be ok but I am still not sure Log in to reply |
