A couple of changes have taken place on the Wiki:

Firstly, all the simulation manuals have been moved over to the Simulations namespace. This has been a join effort between ralphjwchadkirk, Peter Bennet and myself. This puts all the simulation manuals in one area, and should make the 'You are here' map shown at the top of each page a bit more logical.

Secondly, following discussions in this thread the pages previously in the 'sims' area have been moved to a new 'areainfo' namespace. The Available Simulations page has now been updated, with a page for all released simulations written to a common template. The simulations have been classed according to approximate difficulty- please don't get too hung up over this. A number of people wanted a table, and an outline has been created here.

Enjoy!

I've added a column just to say whether the simulation is loader or exe. I think I've got them all right.

I had a look at the list and noticed a couple of errors.

Central Scotland, Cowlairs, NorthEast Scotland are a loader sim.

Stafford is missing from the list.

The public versions aren't. Don't know about anything in development.

I'm trying to convert them but there's a snag with Edinburgh which I can't resolve at the moment.

Thank you for mentioning me Steamer, but I think you and Peter did most of the work!

It's really all down to Steamer, my in-box has been jammed full of changes notifications over the past few days. Great work and many thanks from me.

I don't know if anyone had noticed, but I went through a number all of the manuals and sorted out small things like header sizes, making sure each page had a suitable header, making sure header lines actually stood out from the main text body etc. I haven't changed any of the actual text aside from an odd spelling mistake (override with one 'r' comes to mind as quite a frequent error). I only got about half way through have now got all the way through the list, but I found it quite frustrating loading a page, and then getting distracted, and coming back to it, and not knowing the page I was on because it had no title!

It also means that the "Table of Contents" is more easily navigable, as headers are now of a better set up to allow better use of this feature.

p.s. Clive - why does your Drain manual refer to Drain as a beta sim - was Simsig's policy not to withdraw beta sims some time ago?

God bless, Daniel Wilson

The recent reshuffle of the location of sim manuals means that old links in forum posts now go to "This Page Does Not Exist".

Did no-one think to set up some diverts, if not that, then "Here is a link to the new manual location"?

Same with links from Google (other search engines are available)

Oops, probably a thankless task tracking them all down.

I don't know if diverts can be done.

Creating 'here is the link etc' pages needlessly fills the wiki with loads and loads of pages saying the same thing. If Google finds those, then the domain gets penalised in the search results. The idea of the restructuring is to reduce the amount of pages, condense the structure and rewrite the information. If we can do that, then the chances of ever having to change the wiki again are drastically reduced.

That one got missed somehow, though the policy wasn't hard and fast.

I haven't bothered to update the manual, and probably won't do until I get round to doing a loader version.

even if diverts are not possible in the wiki (which i'm almost certain they are) they can be done via .htaccess file and so no penalty form google if not i would suggest editing all the post that point to the incorrect page to point to the correct page which would be a thankless task

a quick google search brought up this page https://www.dokuwiki.org/faq:redirect
so it is possible with a small plugin added

anyway i digress to leave the forum with links to dead pages in the wiki is bad and so i think a solution should be found to get people to the correct page
