Let me be the first to say that the refreshed Waterloo sim is brilliant! I especially like it now that the signal numbers are correct! I drive this route daily and have looked forward to an update here. May I just ask (as I know you like your sims to be perfect) W16 on the UMF approaching waterloo in my experience is approach controlled when set to any signal OTHER than W4 (UMF). As a Fratton driver we often go from W16 to W6 (UMR) and it clears just as you approach it (in other words W34 cannot show a green when routed to other than the UMF) Were you aware or am I talking rubbish!! I'd looked at Waterloo before but never taken it on. Trying it now but with ARS on except for the Waterloo platforms approach areas till I find my way around. Still quite alot to keep an eye though. Brilliant sim as always. Mal. Last edited: 21/08/2014 at 14:07 by delticfan Log in to reply |

Another excellent refresh- thank you Peter and everyone else involved. First big report- the simulation won't currently chain to Victoria South Eastern. Does this require a refresh on Victoria's side? Victoria Central works fine. Manual has been updated, the other main change is that Wloo plat numbers 1-9 must now be 01 to 09 so the plat display TD works better. That means old Timetables will not validate but can easily be fixed by opening up in an editor and doing a find/replace (which is how I did it). Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! It's a bit of a shame because I really loved this sim so played it a lot, so I really got used to the paged layout. Readjusting my brain for the scrolly layout will not be easy. However, (I haven't downloaded it yet so I can't comment for sure), I expect the advances and updates to modern SimSig standards will more than make up for it :) And a note to anyone playing with ARS - once you get used to the few oddities of the layout, the sim is surprisingly manageable with just the auto buttons (and ACI, but you couldn't turn that off in the previous version). I really love the challenge of playing it without ARS, because it's manageable but you do still have to have your wits about you, especially when you get failures in certain areas. I am glad it has been refreshed. Just imagining what chaining possibilities exist now... EDIT: Now I'm curious - what are the known differences between this and the real thing (that won't be corrected because it's a free sim)? The main thing I'm surprised about is that the wrong-route code for International platform 20 wasn't removed (if the manual is to be believed) - maybe this would be best an (era-style) option in the future (so you can get wrong route reports when it's a different station but not when 20 has been reopened)? Point ends are not quite paired correctly at Nine Elms. Clapham Yard is simplified. Some approach control incorrect per OP. Mostly just minor stuff but the perfectionist may not agree! Anyone have any idea what the Seed Locations are for Waterloo's Platforms? I cannot work these out as the Signal Numbers are the Sim Internal ones, not the actual panel names, and I have no way of knowing what the Stop Blocks are, like you do with London Victoria?

It looks like the Seeding signal numbers are the ones from the old version of the simulation. As a work around, the old Signal Number Plan is still available in the manual, so use the number listed there rather than the one in the simulation. To pre-empt the next question: I've started a new Plan, it'll be a few days before it's ready. Signal numbers are a Loader core-code issue as noted by Geoff. I think this is probably the first time the name overide has been used on such an extensive scale. Motherwell has a dozen or so for different eras, as I expect is the case with other Sims, so probably not been a noted issue before. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Go into the signals tab, click the button with the mouse icon, then click a signal to get its internal number. Log in to reply |

One big difference (cosmetic in the main) is that the real panel is split horizontally with the Mains to Platforms 1 to 10 (or therabouts) being panel 1 and then next to that you have the Windsors and the rest of the platforms as Panel 2. Movement between the two panel control areas is by a slotting arrangment- if I can put it that way. I might redraw it one day, but that's beyond care and maintenance. After reading through some of the posts on this thread I've cured 1 train in the May, 1988 - May, 1989 timetable I've started writing now this sim has been re-released. However I've stumbled across an anomaly that I've not encountered before. I've timetabled 2K01 [21] 0135 London Waterloo - Waterloo M-TW (4CIG) which is booked to run via the 'DMS' all the way. I've ticked the 'seed train' box & selected W19 which is the signal at the end of P10, but for whatever reason the train doesn't appear in P10 at all when I start the sim from afresh. I've checked the signal numbers for the old sim version & that signal is the same. Other trains in platforms 1, 3 9 & 16 all appear OK at the start of the sim apart from 2K01 which should be at the buffer stops in P10 as 1W38 which is a Cl.442 Wessex 5 car set arrives on top of it at 00:09. Has anyone else had this happen?

Further to my last post I think I've found the reason why the train is failing to appear. Despite checking that the timetable data validates OK before saving, when I re-start the sim from fresh the train doesn't appear because when you click on the 'Validate' button it says no path found from International Junc. to vauxhall despite the data previously being accepted & running the analyser the timetable data against 2K01S is showing as invalid. I've even deleted the whole train from the timetable & re-type the data all in again for a second time, but still get the same as before. The data validates, you then save the timetable & re-start the sim, but 2K01S still doesn't appear due to the timetable data becoming corrupted during the save process. I've redesignated 2K01S to seed from P2 instead of P10 as per the Waterloo station working book & the train validates OK & after saving & re-starting the sim from fresh the train now appears OK in P2. For some reason it doesn't like being seeded at P10. Last edited: 21/08/2014 at 15:51 by 58050 Log in to reply |

I'm guessing one of the locations in the timetable is auto inserted (Shown by lower case). If that's the case just make it a mandatory location by changing location, then changing it back and validate/save

Thanks for that Noel. Now sorted, I'll have to remember that trick if it happens again. Back to adding more trains to the tt now.

Pleased to advise I have reached 0800 on this sim with the 2010 timetable, without ARS without too much trouble at all! Tips for those who try this:
Thanks again Peter for refreshing this. If I can ask one question I asked earlier again, do the Buffer Stops at Waterloo have a location identifier I can use for Seeding Trains? As I understand it if I seed the train at the Platform Starter, it will want to depart immediately irrespective of the booked Platform Stop at Waterloo? Cheers B) Sorry guys, I am in the business of making people wait! Last edited: 22/08/2014 at 07:18 by kaiwhara Reason: Ups and Downs mixed up. Log in to reply |

Not as elegant, but might be a work around. I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either. Log in to reply |
