hi all i spoke in depth with my freind whos a signaller at maltby colliery south box and was explaining about the boxes working on SimSig. a few points that came up were: 1.if a route is set from M10 to M2 (colliery to SB), m33 cannot be cleared for the single line to M34 although this is more than possible in real life and occurs when a through train passes a train propelling out of the colliery. so why is this interlocking present? 2. box special instructions (and general passing loop procedures) mean that if a train is routed onto the single line or the passing loop in one direction, the train in the other direction must wait until this train is stationary before being allowed to proceed. eg if a train was routed M36-M8 to be held in the loop, a train cant proceed past M33 until this train is stationary (the SimSig equivelant would i guess be a timeout). this interlocking isnt present although it does appear on other sims eg exeter. 3. the approach TCs for signals M36 and M33 lock the said signals on a 2min timeout when occupied (therefore the signaller usually pulls off before this when warned, i think by a treadle. if not then its a case of waiting for the 2min release 4. the loop lengths could do with extension. although portrayed accurately (385m for the main and about 415m for the passing loop), this doesnt allow for run rounds on full 399m trains as in real life as when the loco reataches it hangs over the TC. the actual procedure for fixing this is that the train, when cleared for a runround, draws forward so the first wagon is in line with the signal, it then uncouples and runs round. reasonably this isnt possible in SimSig but extending the loops by 20m would fix this. (technically, TT creators shortening trains would fix this too. just a few points for comments, critisism and/or consideration "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

Had lots of fun with Maltby. Running the 2000 setup and can only get trains to come out of location 'Maltby Colliery' then 'Maltby (SB)' - 'Maltby Down Loop', departures from 'Maltby FHH' wouldn't appear and the timetable editor won't accept the route 'Maltby FHH-Maltby (SB)-Maltby Down Loop'. Both the down loop and arr/dep loop appear to be location 'Maltby Down Loop'. Propelling out of the Colliery into the down loop(not the arr/dep) and set to N0 I've run round a train of 394m including loco. Thanks for the Sim, Freightman likes Worksop and is already doing unpleasant things to the timetable, currently have one up plus two down trains heading for Maltby plus another due out of the colliery to run round! attached is a mockup of the SYJR revised for the period post 1983 when maltby colliery north, firbeck A and B, and harworth boxes closed, putting control over to maltby colliery south, but prior to dinnington colliery junctions closure in 1997.
