Hi all, Let me introduce myself I am rather new here. I do live in the Netherlands so I need a short swimm across. Living near Rotterdam in a small town called Spijkenisse (say: Spiké-nis-sey) being a touringcarbusdriver and a former subway driver at RET (local transportation Compagny of Rotterdam) I am interested in Steamlocomotives and Railwaysignalling. Now I have downloaded the Help file but the file anyhow is corrupted as well so I can not open it. I have download an add-on th read CHM files but it still doesn't work. Therefore I can not practice the simulations because of the lack of knowledge how to operate thie simulation properly I need the CHM file as an doc file to open it up in Word. Of course I tried to discover it all but without the help file it is quite differcult as well Therefoe my request if there is somebody with the same helpfile in Doc format or txt format. Then please sent a copy of this to rcdevisser@gmail.com I would apreciate it SO much you wouldn't even believe it. Regards Ronald Log in to reply |

Welcome to SimSig. Most of the help file information can be found on the WIKI (link in panel top left), http://www.SimSig.co.uk/index.php?option=com_jfusion&Itemid=73 in particular: http://www.SimSig.co.uk/dokuwiki/doku.php?id=usertrack:ssrun:simuse0 Also once you run a simulation, the help file should be available via the F1 key. I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either. Log in to reply |

I am studying now Glouchester, but I wonder how to print a full list of the timetable itself and I have aready found the signalmap from the area. I still have problems where to find everything. For example how to dispatch a train from the CS directly to Gouchester New Yard because there is a grey arrow Something about me: I do live in the Netherlands near Rotterdam. My greatest passion are steamlocomotives and I am a member of the steamclub SSN but inactive at this very moment due to my familyissues. I do use Microsoft Trainsimulator and it is my greatest desire to have a joining between signaltower and MSTS so we all can rule signals online in a network such like Fligtsimulator has already with communities like VATSIM and IVAO and I am familiar with IVAO too doing online ATC at Amsterdam Schiphol. I am ensured that Flightsimulator has achieved this great purpose. MSTS together whit signalboxcommunities like it is here at SimSIg so it will be possible to merge and join together so we can rule trains while other runing on train(s) together with the right signalling and radiocommunication such as used within IVAO and VATSIM called Teamspeak. It would be a great efford achieving this idea and target in a very proper way and just like IVAO and VATSIm worldwide memebers driving along MSTS lines joined with signalboxes and CTC towers. All joined online with visitors at the side of their desired viewingpint and position nearby a track viewing trains like trainhunters with camera when trains goes passing by. Or as a visitor at a CTC tower visiting the room where the signaldispatcher is working. Or when becoming a member they can rule a signalbox or CTC tower or riding a train even can caught levels to climb higher from Student to CTC Executive Chief or student driver to Chief HST driver or Chief Steamengeneer or 1st Heater (Last part is my specialty in MSTS) I would love that uppermost. The main issue with this is that Geoff (i think) can't work on some sims due to conflicts of interests and from what i understand a lot of research comes through him so the network unfortunately, will not be extensive.

Yes as Luke says, Geoff who is the owner and main developer of SimSig software cannot recreate certain area's due to confilct of interests with his day job. So at the momment a link between MSTS and SimSig is not a feasable idea. But Ronald one thing I will say to you is 'Never say never' as it may be possible in the future. and If you wish to get further clarification from Geoff and the development team on the possibilities of this ideaa running. You can open a thread in the 'features wishlist' section of the forum. Hope this is of some help to you. Alan. Log in to reply |

I'm not sure where the perceived problem with MSTS came from - TRE don't do driving simulators. The real problem with MSTS (and RailWorld (?) aka MSTS2) is that it does not support third party interfacing. So while SimSig will quite happily talk to MSTS, MSTS won't talk (or listen) and Microsoft no longer support MSTS nor have any public plans for a new release. Somebody recently suggested that Zusi might be capable of doing this, also BVE but to a much lesser degree. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

There's OpenBVE and OpenRails (open source MSTS clone), MSTS2 was cancelled twice and MS have sacked the Aces team so nothing going on on that front. Given that SimSig already have the track circuit/signalling information required, shouldn't be that difficult to get the data from OpenStreetMap (data available under CC-BY-SA), and mix it all together into a route. @Geoff: The percieved problem with you making a signalling interface for an MSTS map is if they are modelled on a real world area that has an IECC control box controlling it; then doesn't that limit you on what you can and can't do? Although TRE doesn't make driving simulators; what is being suggested (from what I understand) is a Driving Sim, SimSig type interface.

This will create a file called TT_Analysis.txt in the same folder as Gloucester.exe. To send a train from CS to New Yard, set the route from CS to the grey arrow, then a route from sig 423 (Old Yard) to grey arrow in New Yard. Log in to reply |

I read Afro's comment as there being a problem with MSTS. There is no restriction on me producing a driving sim, nor an interface to SimSig for a driving sim. MSTS2 is a long story, not entirely true that it was cancelled twice. It's complicated to explain what went on behind the public scenes. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

So while SimSig will quite happily talk to MSTS, MSTS won't talk (or listen) and Microsoft no longer support MSTS nor have any public plans for a new release.MSTS has made a big mistake that they do not support 3th party interface (and other trainsims too) and they lacked to build it because when they should have done so they should create a brighter aspect to simulate close to reality beacause not only traindriving is a part of the simulation but signalling, shunting, visitors being passangers or trainrunners, depotassistance for steamdepots. Even bigger is the lack of reveiling the code for develloppers to continue on with MSTS. Microsoft had blocked that way to devellop enhangements and add-ons/ins except for routebuilders. My greatest concern is that Flightsim has achieved this for flightsimulation (check-out IVAO or VATSIM) and why not for railsimulation. It seems that Microsft has start all over and did not learn any lesson from Flightsimulation. Now I am running the Glouchester aray offline in order to study the signalaspect. In MSTS, I do often drive steamlocomotives with manaul heating. using A Joystick to Keyword processor and reassigning my keyboard to seperate heating and driving. My favorite lines are routrs ceated by "German Railroads" uneclectrified like "Der Rollbahn 1963" the "Emslandstrecke" and the "Moselbahn" In Britain I like the "Severn Valley Railway" and the Swanage Route and Trains in South England "from Woking to Basingstroke" There is a Freeware Add-on release from Rotterdam 1938. One thing is for shure. Microsoft does not understand the basics of railwayengeneering, signalaspects, and timetables. Other simulation like Railworks has a greater and better understanding of engeneering railways because many railwayenthousiastics are involved in the devellopment of it Now back to the SimSIg, I am very satisfied and quite happy with it. The programm comes quite close to reality. I have been on several train- and subwayyards and in CTC towers due to my work as subway driver between 2003 and 2007 at RET in Rotterdam. I hope that after studying the programm I will be able to run online with others Regards, Ronlad Log in to reply |

Even Kuju (or whatever they are now) ignored the community, but having seen the internal structure of their product, it doesn't surprise me that they didn't want to expose it because then people would see the logical flaws in the architecture which would have made external control very difficult anyway. The saddest part of all is the number of volunteers who wanted to help them understand signalling (and other things) yet they chose to do it their own way. SimSig Boss Log in to reply |

I have heard about it. I saw some messages on the trainsim site, they should use somekind of Open Source method In the past I have done some discussions about the working of signals in MSTS at different forums worldwide on internet. My idea exist longer than this post I have done here. It remains for years after the start of MSTS. I have seen some beautifull Signaloperationprogramms like the one develloped. in my country (NL) Signalsoft has devellpped a CTC tower in Arnhem from the 60s with an simulated working NX signal switchingtabel. I had a demo downloaded last month from the USA from stramlines compagny. They have a 15 minutes demo working at Horseshoe, PA with the USA Norac style signaldisplay (PRR / Amtrak style, Color-Light-position-signals). When sitting in the tower you will hear the trains passing by. Amazing sound. Most develloppers does embrace the idea I have, but mostly the lack of players and/or volunteers for testing causes to stumble the devellopment of an actual simulated signalbox within MSTS as an build-in or add-on.
