Whilst creating a new timetable for Feltham I have just received the following error message after I did a timetable analysis: -

"List index out of bounds (4)" and then a further message after I closed that message and did the analyse again "I/O error 32"

Does anyone know what these messages indicate?

All loader versions were up to date and I am running the latest version of the sim.

Geoff

I had this issue with one of my own sims.

The cause was related to the sim data, I will raise the issue on Mantis for Felthams developer shortly.

"Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer

Thanks for that headshot119.

Silly question really but would you advise not putting anymore data into the timetable in that case until the problem is looked at?

The issue didn't effect any of the timetable data and a whole TT was written with the issue in place, the timetable will also run fine.

It just effects the analysis tool running.

This of course assumes it's exactly the same issue.

Raised as Mantis 12375

The first one indicates a bug in the core code that Feltham is tickling. The second is because the first one left the core code in an inconsistent state preventing it from writing out the analysis report, so you can ignore it.

Whether or not the Feltham developer changes the sim to prevent the bug triggering, it will need to be fixed at some point. I haven't yet had a chance to investigate.

Thanks for that Clive.

I have noticed that the analyser now refuses to generate any sort of updated report after putting a few more services into the timetable since I reported this. It should have come back and reported that those new ones have not been used as they have not been linked to a following or previous service. Trouble is that if it is not fixed then the timetable may still contain lots of errors which would have been picked up by this useful tool. Is this applicable or would it be applicable to all new timetables generated for the Feltham sim?

Geoff.

Is this after closing and restarting the Loader? Have you deleted or renamed the report file? Since I haven't yet looked into the problem, I can't say what the root cause or effect it.

Again, I don't know what the actual issue is, so I can't say. Most likely, though, is that it will only affect those timetables that trigger the bug. Though once it's triggered you need to restart the loader.

It's been suggested to me that it's something to do with the length of the location name. If so, avoid the relevant location until it's fixed!

Clive,
Interesting saga as I have now taken to reinstalling the Feltham simulation (just the simulation) which seems to have got rid of the problem. As you correctly say once it has been triggered and either carrying on or even restarting the sim then it effects everything else i.e with the timetable for 2015, when I started that in a new simulation and went to analyse the timetable exactly the same errors came up.
As I said I have now reinstalled the simulation and the timetable that I was creating works perfectly fine when using the analyser.
One thing that might or might not have caused the trigger was that I did run the timetable in a chain with the Wimbledon sim just to see if things were working OK. It was only after running trains between the two sims and then exiting and restarting Feltham again, that the problem occurred. Could this chaining have caused the problem?

I can't see how the chain can have caused a problem with the analyser code, and I can't see why reinstalling the sim would make a difference either.

Can you please send me the timetable in question? If you can make it happen again, I'd really like to know how. Without something like that I'm at a bit of a loss.

Thanks for that Clive. I am continuing and if the problem happens again (which so far it has not) I will send you a saved copy.

Clive,
I have hit this problem again. Copy of a one line entry for a new timetable that I am creating (attached) and the problem occurred again when hitting the Analyse button.
Same as before it comes up with "List Index out of bounds (2)" and then "I/O error 32"
I must admit I have come to the conclusion here that the length of characters in the description box may be to blame. I have entered: -

17:27 London Waterloo - London Waterloo via Main Line (Class 455 x 2)

Any thoughts?

Geoff

Thanks. I can reproduce the problem and will investigate further. It's clearly a core code bug, though.

Thanks Clive,

Further, for your information this does not happen on the adjoining Wimbledon Sim. You can type in exactly the same information for a service that goes round the loop in and out of Waterloo and it does not create any problem at all. It could ,therefore, be something that is only peculiar to Feltham.

Will leave this with you.

It could be (I haven't had time to investigate yet) but, if so, it just means that something in Feltham is triggering a core code bug.

Okay, located it. It's nothing to do with the length of the description.

The immediate cause is the use of a platform number at Twickenham; removing the number will stop the problem.

The proximate cause is something odd about the way Twickenham has been coded in the sim.

But the ultimate cause is that something in the way the core code analyses the timetable is wrong and needs fixing. So that's on my list.

Core code bug now fixed. Obviously you won't see the fix until the next loader update.
