Hello, A fantastic thank you to all involved in creating the best rail signal sims in the UK (probably worldwide). Now, onto my question. I have recently been looking at heritage simulations, similar to the ones provided by PC Rail, and I found them to be very enjoyable ... however, they do lack the detail that Sim Sig is renouned for, and of course there are no MP options. Whilst Sim Sig is designed to reflect modern signalling, and heritage/block maps are available to a point (e.g., the Wales simulation), I feel there is a GREAT opportunity for Sim Sig to leverage the skills they have to create a truly authentic heritage sim that will undoubtedly knock the competition out of the water! So how about it? Could our experts give existing heritage simulations the Sim Sig treatment? It would open a whole new dimension to the simulation experience, and no doubt boost the financial returns as I am sure Sim Sig would price them properly? Heritage sims have a different look and feel and require different skills to play. And multi player would be cool. Interested in opinions - and whether there are any plans in the pipeline. Multiplayer AB would be brilliant, but it's probably not going to happen in the near future: From the Cornwall SimSig thread: Lardybiker said: Simsig was never intended to be a simulator for AB sections. I have been looking in the web for some time trying to find a straightforward mechanical signal box simulation which is free and with no luck. Blockpost has one or two up and running and another on its way but they are quite expensive. There is another complicated one which was designed for the old BBC computer in another site. I think it has been modified for windows but it just looks too much hassle. Not much else around and its perhaps time to look at our railway signalling heritage seriously.

A few months back I wrote a bell code learning program based around ETT regs, and was awfully tempted to say "why don't I extend it to become a full ETT instrument simulator? Or a full mechanical box simulator? And then add networking functionailty..." I didn't, largely because I have better things to do, which don't resemble the day job quite so much, in my non-copious free time. I have to say, too, that if I ever did get a project of that size completed, I wouldn't be releasing it to the general public for free. Log in to reply |

I am currently making a lot of mockups on many railways.

No offence, but I for one would rather play an actual sim rather than a powerpoint, so your mockups might be okay, But I'd rather see something along the lines of the Llangollen sim.

I prefer sims like PCRAIL's versions of Newton Abbot or Taunton for example. Different track plans and still with coloured lights. Log in to reply |
