Now that "Eureka" is comming in May 2011, I thought that perhaps it would be a nice idea to work on a community project. My thought is to create the "Eureka" WTT for the Kings Cross sim with a handfull of people in the SimSig community.... would you participate in this? The workload could be split speeding things up a lot and we might even be able to get the WTT released on the same day Eureka kicks off. ** Can someone please fix the POLL options, something apears to have gone wrong. Maarten, I have already considered this for the Peterborough sim (and done a few quick edits) (using the 2010 December TT) so will be quite willing to work in collaboration on this as the main mid section linking between the two sims will need to be the same. Ken Log in to reply |

Sorry Otto, the only options are to reset the counts, or to delete the poll. I've done the latter so you can start again or just get people to post a "yes" in this thread.

If you do want to play with the TT, the last version for download I saw was at http://www.rail-reg.gov.uk/upload/pdf/ecml-nr-scl2-timetable-181209.pdf - the actual TT is Appendix A at the back of the document. Bear in mind that this is still draft and open to consultation; the finalised version will not be published until this autumn for implementation in Spring 2011. Given the local uproar in North Northumberland and the commitments that ECML management have already given, there will certainly be some tweaking done before the TT is put to bed. Pardon the ignorance, but what is this Eureka you refer to? As I'm currently between jobs I would be happy to help with creating this timetable - it is long overdue that I gave something back to the Simsig community in return for the hours of fun that it has provided me. Log in to reply |

I am writing a couple of TTs myself at the moment & would be more than happy to assist my services in writing a "community" timetable.

Okay I don't think we need a poll anymore to find out if there are enough hands to type the TT. I myself thought abaut using Google docs spreadsheet. This will ollow everyone to work on the document at the same time and it is easy to use and doesn't require microsoft excel to be installed on your PC/Mac. Log in to reply |

I would definitely be interesting in helping out perhaps on the open access operators (Grand Central, First Hull Trains) and then maybe working on some of the First Capital Connect services too. However if it were done on Google Docs I would probably not be able to help out. Basically what I am saying is that I would only really be able to help out by working within SimSig writing the timetables out. If it were done via Google Docs (or any other method) I would likely have to learn all the writing/coding etc from scratch. That said, there may very well be some new services starting up on the East Coast Main Line by that date so that may need to be considered as well. I believe that what he means by using Google Docs is basically writing a .csv file in which case all you do is put the headcode in, description and timing load; then put the times in the corresponding cell in the spreadsheet (if it's departing king's cross at 01:15 then you go to the cell that is level with King's Cross dep and the headcode and put the time in "01:15" if it's passing then you use the passing character (usually ) so it'd be 0115. Obviously using Freeze Panes is very useful for this. Log in to reply |

Ahh that might be a problem for me then as my laptop came with Microsoft Works and I don't have MS Office on it. I know that I should be able to save in .csv or perhaps use Excel on my desktop PC but even so that means I'd still not now properly how to write a TT for a train in any spreadsheet ::

UKTM Google docs is the Google way of tackling the Microsoft plan for world domination. With Google docs, all of the software and documents are on Google's server. All you as user have to do is open the file through your web browser then edit or amend as necessary. Because the file is held on the server, it is also available to other users so that more than one person can input to the document. You also have the option of exporting the file to your own hard disk if required. Perhaps you should wait until our signaller@amsterdam works out what he wants to do and then start to look as what you would need to do if you want to help. In the meantime, you could always go through the Google help files to see how Google docs works and you could also try exporting one of the existing SimSig timetables (F4 - Tools 1 tab - Export) which gives you the TT in .csv format. You will be able to open this with MS Works (I've just confirmed that it works with MS Works v8) and see what the TT looks like in a format that will be identical to the format in Google docs. Can I please point out that the Excel format doesn't allow for everything that can happen in a timetable. I wouldn't recommend it for this.

So did mine and I refused to pay for MS Office and dumped Works for Open Office which does everything that MS Office does and more and even better its FREE.
