First up, hello again - not my first visit to these forums but I seem to have "got lost" in the changeover. Very nice the new forums look too! I'm trying to migrate from Windoze to Linux and have Wine running under Ubuntu. I've installed the Linux "patch" downloaded from here, and checked that the fonts are set up correctly, but I see some strange behaviour which must be something to do with screen re-drawing. If I load, for example, the new Edinburgh sim, I can see all the lines being drawn correctly. Then, as the opening dialogue box disappears, so do the lines through Waverley! If I scroll left, everything to the east is fine, but the running lines stop short of the platforms at Waverley and don't show up at all to the west. Similarly, if I load KX, the track is missing - but open/close a dialogue box and the track temporarily reappears before vanishing once again. Any ideas from anyone? Log in to reply |

I also use wine under linux, and I never had the problem you described (but my configuration may be a little different from yours) Which are the lines that disappear? The ones just below the dialogue box? Log in to reply |

Hi there, Yes, I've noticed the same problem, sometimes. My "main" computer works just fine with Wine (running 1.1.40 atm), and has a nice NVIDIA graphics card. My "work" "laptop" runs SimSig under wine fine as well, and has a very old intel chipset. However, my "upstairs" computer, with a newer intel chipset, does not. It shows the exact same symptoms as you describe- KingsX draws and then overlays blank on top of, the track paths. Don't know about Edinburgh, I haven't tried it on that computer yet (it works fine on this, my "main" one though). My guess is that there is a bug in wine's screen rendering code, that means that there is a negative interaction between the SimSig drawing routines and the graphics driver. However, I agree it's weird as all hell. I'd open a bug with wine, if geoff/everyone else agrees that this is interesting enough to get fixed. Christian Log in to reply |

The "normal" state is no lines - then when you open a dialogue box and close it again, the lines get painted in in the space where it was and then vanish again! I think it must be my graphics - the computer I've been using is a new Core i3 with Intel on-chip graphics. I had to use the latest Linux kernel (hence I'm running Ubuntu 10.04 beta) in order to get graphics to work at all, so I guess Wine hasn't caught up either! Patience may be necessary. I just didn't want to lose Simsig by migrating to Linux, but the new computer is destined for life a a file server and won't actually need to run Simsig, whereas my own, older, PC has an ancient ATI card and will probably do fine with my cherised applications. I've been getting the same issues on a fairly old Laptop running Ubuntu 9.10 and Wine 1.1.41 for both KingsX and Edinburgh also.
