Just a general query really, but I was on Wolverhampton sim so I will post it here.

Do you get marked down on your score if you change a trains default platform?

I had a late running train which was behind another service, both trains needed to use platform 1 and go up the Trent valley.

I had a space on platform 2 so decided rather than holding the delayed service outside the station that I would bring it into platform 2.

I did this so that the service wouldn't be delayed any longer but I think I got marked down because I used the wrong platform.

Is it the right thing to do? Or should I just hold it outside the station so that it gets delayed by even longer?

Yes, you were marked down.

As to whether it was the "right" thing? That depends... The score, for the most part reflects how accurately followed the timetable - but to get round failures and disruption you need to re-platform trains, skip stops etc etc. So from A realism point of view what you did was fine...

Some people obsess over the score, but the train ends up so late waiting for its platform any points "gained" using correct platform are negated by those lost for it being 20 minutes late as a result...

Thanks for the clarification mate, appreciate it.

Or if you are points chasing, edit the platform number of the train in question before it arrives (so that correct information is given out to the expectant passengers.
I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Note that, given the choice, it’s better to select a different platform number that’s attached to the same physical platform (i.e. blob of orange on-screen). That way waiting passengers just have to turn around, not run across bridges or whatever. That’s why the performance analysis window differentiates between “wrong platform” and “opposite platform” and takes fewer points off for the latter.

The way I look at it is that as the signaller you would need to inform the platform staff at a place like Wolves to help with assisting passengers and changing information screens.

Just think of changing the platform numbers in the timetable as calling down to the control room or informing platform staff.

Win for your performance score and win for those passengers sheltering in the rain!
