Can't login/edit??? 01/04/2010 at 22:07 #1040

Having just read this Wiki article and I noticed the missing information in the subsequent articles as linked to from that one so I thought I would try my hand at adding some useful things similar to what is already shown on this other Wiki article however seems that I am not automatically logged in to the Wiki and I cannot manually login either.

Currently using Google Chrome on WIndows XP and have just tried to access the Wiki via Internet Explorer 7 to rule out a problem with Chrome but it still doesn't work for me?!! It shouldn't be a problem regarding cookies as if it doesn't work with IE7 then it likely doesn't work at all in any browser.

What is going on, please?!!

Thanks in advance for replies.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

I am having the same problem, I cannot log in or edit pages.

I am using IE8 on Windows 7 Home Premium 32 bit. Have also tried with IE7 on Windows XP Professional 64 bit (I have a dual boot computer) so it doesn't seem to be O/S or browser specific, have done the usual flushing cookies, temp, history etc.

I reported this to PeterB Wed lunchtime, he has the same error, with GeoffM I believe.

Same here -- I'm a new user, if that makes a difference, but from the previous posts, I'm guessing that's not it.

Am I correct that you don't need a different user/pword for the wiki than you use for the forums?

Until now it was not need a different password for the wiki, just one password (I mean just one account) was shared among Jommla, the forum (Agora) and the wiki (DokuWiki).

By the way, I could not find a way to set up an account for just the wiki, so this is surely not the way to solve the problem.

What can I notice is that before today, the wiki page was a frame inside a frameset (and was possible to view just this frame and in this case you have not the top bar on the page (the one with search and go on the right) and the left column with the menu and the shoutbox). Form today the page is served as a single page with no frame.

Of course I can not conclude that there is a link between this difference and the login problem, but I can suspect it.

I can confirm that there is a major problem in attempting to edit the Wiki and will PM Geoff.

I am sure GeoffM will see this immediately on his return, (he is/was off work after an eye operation)

In the meanwhile just keep a record of what needs doing until normal access is resumed.

I'll start by saying that I trust GeoffM's eye operation went OK.

Just remembered you can click on the "View Pagesource" button (top or bottom left corner) and it shows you the source for that Wiki page ("article"). Copy & Paste it across to a suitable word processing program (Microsoft Word, Microsoft Works Word Processor, WordPad, Notepad, etc), edit it in that program then save it to be copied back over the Wiki later. Although before you copy & paste your edited version back into/onto the Wiki you ought to check in-case the Wiki has changed from the version you originally copied from the Wiki.

This bug/problem seems to have come back to haunt us again.....

The previous occurrence of this was resolved a while back, although I may have forgotten to report in this thread that it was resolved. But yes, it does look like it is back.

Could I please ask someone to go to any article in the usertrack area and report back if they can see the 'Edit' button in the top-left hand corner (if you cannot see it then you'll probably see the 'Show Pagesource' button instead, exactly like I am seeing right now).

Thanks in advance.

No sign of LB's edit, so must have been him. :: Least it wasn't me - for once!

Hmm, I did remove the Login button (as the Joomla integration thing tells me to do) but maybe it removed the authentication completely.
