Had a go with this Carlisle 79/80 timetable the other day. Had to run it a low speed as the traffic was heavy and there are many complex movements. It was nice to run a timetable with the full avoiding goods lines. The layout of Carlisle must be a signalman's nightmare now.

Unfortunately, I had to abandon the timetable as the sections of trains which were awaiting a join kept reporting that they had no engine. So I tested this out - I "stole" a light engine from another movement and assigned it as the joining engine, got it to join the stack of cars that reported they had no motive power. The join was successful but when I decided to move the cars (with stolen engine) it reported that it had no engine !

Pity that the timetable seems to be inoperative due to this bug. I would have liked to carry out but it became pointless as I had to keep deleting trains just to keep going.

Anyone with the same problem.

Yes, that sounds a weird problem. It makes me wonder if you were doing something wrong with the joins.

Started over with this timetable taking very care about where the CSTPx loco was going and where it was at every point. Everything goes well until the loco joins 5S25 around 3.40 am. The join appears to be successful but when I attempt to move 5S25, it reports that it has no engine.

However, I have since discovered that its all a matter of timing. If I leave 5S25 for a little longer, it discovers that it has an engine and the movement can take place as normal.

At the time the sim exe file was created, the core code was a bit touchy about keeping track of what was powered and what was unable to move of its own accord. All different now in the brave new Loader world.

Or is it just a matter of waiting until the join is complete? You should make sure that the train display actually shows only one train, not two. The core code waits for the length of time the join should take, then merges the trains as a single action, then deletes one of the two. Until this is all done, I wouldn't be surprised to find that a train is reporting no engine.

Yes Clive I did wait until the train list had updated. The list indicated that the engine was no longer on its own and the formed service was assigned a new reporting number. Yet, the new service appeared to indicate that it had no engine. I am not sure how long I had to wait for the join to settle down but it did seem to suggest that a hasty attempt to move a service too soon after a join was not a good idea.

Just giving this sim a try for the first time and I'm having issues with this TT. I assume I'm the cause but its hard to know why.

My specific issue is with 4M18 coming to Carlisle P6 from the down line and it being meant to split its power off and leave a number of cars for a later join. The issue is that the train enters front facing and then the new separate loco reports that its stuck behind the detached cars and can't move. Since he's detached the load behind him is unpowered and can't be shunted out.

I presume I need to do something different but what?

The loco sits on the buffers until the stock is shunted off later.

Ah, that's interesting. Is this routine then, for the loco to just wait there? Pickup isn't for 2.5 hours.

Another interesting TT thing that caught me off guard though.

Its called shunt releasing. Its a fairly common practice in bay platforms and terminal stations.

The crew will probably disapear for a cuppa in the mess room or sign off completely on arrival and the loco will get shunted by one of the station pilot crews or a shed and ferry crew.

Shunt release was very common before the advent of HST's and Fixed formation units. There were even regulations for each station in the train working books. When I was at OOC/Padd you were allowed to follow slowly a departing train from the platform as far as the platform starting signal at Paddington.

For those of you who are just trying this timetable out for the first time what I can say to you when the Carlisle sim is released on loader the 19791980 Carlisle timetable has been completely re-vamped, so don't expect to see all the usual trains you see in that version to appear in the new version. It's been 4 years since I started writing this timetable & since that time I have picked up other publications I didn't have before. So now it is in the region of 95%+ accurate to the period of the timtable. The only thing which can't exactly be copied is when & where the associated locos came from or went to once loco changes had been made. I've used best guess from my railway career experiences for the timetable. I'd say most of the familiar users of this timetable will be pleasantly surprised at the new version.

Every time you say this Pascal, I get a little bit more excited!

Happy to wait of course, but someone should employ you in marketing, you know how to get the waiting crowd up for it!

I'm sure that all of those people waiting for this timetable & sim to be re-released would like it to be as realistic as possible & as mentioned before alot of new old BR publications have been sought to make this timetable alot more accurate than previously done due to the limitation of when I first started writing this timetable. Believe it or believe not but I'm a anxious as you all are to see this finally released, it must hold the record for the longest time waited for a sim to be re-released from it being first announced that it was going to be re-released. Hopefully at the end of the wait you'll realize it was all worth it. I'm not expert at marketing by the way, my experience is in running a railway not really done anything. All in all you'll find it extremely challenging. Warning not to be run at too higher speed or yu could end up sinking under the large amount of night traffic through the area.
Furthermore the version number at the moment is V6.5.11m so it has progressed a long way from V4.2
