One for Geoff to look at but I think I found a bug in Victoria Central or least something that shouldn't be permitted. Basically I'm running the Jan to May 2015 WTT and I have 2A06 which is booked to use the Down Brighton Fast Line all the way from Victoria itself to Selhurst and eventually onto Three Bridges however in the timetable this train is listed as using Platform 15 at Clapham Junction which is on the Down Brighton Slow line now if I use the validate command in the timetable tool, the sim doesn't seem to pick up that there is a issue here. Surely it ought pick this up? I mean I can understand FL to SL at Clapham Jcn then SL to FL at Balham but as Platform 15 can't actually serve the Down Brighton Fast is this one to be raise on Mantis? Because surely it can't be a valid route if the platform isn't actually serving the line itself? I have enclosed a screenhot of the sim to show what I mean. However as I routed it into Platform 13 as that is the Down Brighton Fast platform, it complains saying wrong platform so I can't win either way! Post has attachments. Log in to view them. Looks like another 'blame Network Rail' response, I don't see anything in the open data about a path restriction for each platform, and it's entirely possible they timetabled it that way. Log in to reply |

You misunderstand, if you use the route verifying tool in the timetable thing it does give you a choice of available routes if it senses a issue with the routing you first choose, well as Platform 13 is on the Down Fast and Platform 15 is on the Down Slow then how can a train be routed via the Down Fast at Clapham Jcn if it's calling at Platform 15 which is on the Down Slow? It simply can't and this ought to be picked up by the sim itself.

So if a timetable says a train is booked to use a specific line and platform, I can just ignore it? SO that's why when I route a train correctly it still says wrong platform, go figure....

An extreme example I can think of was a weekend when Wrexham to Chester was shut, and a shuttle service was running Wrexham General (platform 1) to Shrewsbury (platform 5). No shunts where timetabled at either end. "Passengers for New Lane, should be seated in the rear coach of the train " - Opinions are my own and not those of my employer Log in to reply |

With sims that have ARS the timetabled paths have to be unique so ARS knows where to send the trains. That's why the FL/SL etc combinations are important. While you can also add in the platform numbers as part of the ARS code it's not necessary unless required to distinguish routes over and above the line & path codes. That's why it's not picking up a validation issue. If there are trains that are non-stop then it's probably not be usual to insert a platform number and thus if you added plat numbers to the ARS code they'd either be mandatory for every train or you'd need an override path but that'd validate for omitted platform numbers for stopping trains too. As far as I am aware Vic C is not ARS in real life so there is presumably no ARS type coding within NR's timetabling system to pick up line, path or platforming errors anyway. The validation is there to help make sure trains will achieve their timetable in terms of locations in a sensible order, timings sequential, and - in the case of ARS sims - there is enough information to route the train throughout. I don't think platform numbers are required at Clapham hence why it doesn't validate them if they are there.
