After 8 months of work, we're proud to announce Tyneside IECC is now available to purchase. This sim features four busy workstations plus Heighington and Shildon signalboxes (simplified a bit) and chains to York North/South. Speaking of which, if you purchased YorkNS before today then you'll be getting a £5 loyalty discount on Tyneside which should be applied automatically - but don't hang around because this offer is only for a couple of weeks.

Tyneside is, without a doubt, one of the most challenging sims I have played in my opinion. While it might look like there is lots of track, in reality the layout is really restrictive in many places - especially around Newcastle and Gateshead. Short signal sections in some areas as well, so the chances of stitching yourself up with trains facing each other is unusually high.

So, it's not really a beginner sim if you're on your own, but great as a multiplayer. Link in YorkNS and LeedsEW for a well over a hundred miles of direct route as well as the branches.

Looks like 8 months well spent to me, and looks very challenging as well. Will look forward to the first session on this. In the meantime congratulations, well done and thanks to all involved with its testing and release.

In the shop it reads 30-5=30. Please explain what this means?
no pound key on my keyboard. Is 30 with the discount?

On its own Tyneside is £35, so £30 is the price after the York discount.

In the page for Sunderland Workstation, one restriction is given for freights at Sunderland (in the Up direction), but the wording implies that it should also apply to Down trains, and there is a blank bullet point. Has a second restriction gone missing?

(I would imagine it's along the lines of requiring 6205/6207/6209 or 6205/6213/6215 to be clear before 6203 is cleared)

Wow,

I have now been on Sim Sig for nearly seven years and the simulation that I have always wanted has now arrived and boy was it worth the wait.

People can now see where my profile name originally came from. It was a really busy location when the works were open and it is good to see that the branch line is now associated once more with traction and rolling stock building.

If anyone does a present day timetable for this at least they will not have to put a station stop in for Tees-side Airport.......unless it's a Sunday of course

WOW We've near enough got the whole ECML all thats needed (NOT asking just commenting) Peterborough updating, a Doncaster sim and a sim covering from Newcastle to Berwick-on-Tweed, Now that would be some multi player

If Doncaster is done the chaining code will need to be added to PBO and then recompiled. Compiling can only be done as loader these days, though it is possible to have a paged representation.

It connects to loader KX fine.

Peter, so is Peterborough not prepared to be connected to Doncaster? Pity.

The dev needs to know how the other end is going to look and that information might not have been available at the time. For example, at what point does Peterborough notify Doncaster via the train describer that a train is approaching? How many track circuits back over the boundary are shown? Sometimes devs set up chaining data in the expectation that it will probably be like it is, but most ends up changing at least a little anyway once the next sim is developed and more thoroughly researched.

That said, I don't envisage the chain between these two to be that onerous. No routes, just automatic signals on one way tracks, which makes life a whole lot easier. (He says :whistle: )

I've noticed that Hett Mill, Killingworth and Dam Dykes level crossings need to be lowered manually while East Boldon is lowered by the ARS. Is this normal?

It may be apochryphal, but I heard that in the early days of the IECC, GNER (which ran the ECML trains in that era) arranged regular liaison meetings when groups of drivers went into the IECC to talk to the signallers (while they were working the panel, not as a meeting-room job). One of the bones of contention in those meetings was the number of times that trains were being checked on the approach to Hett Mill LC. The tale I heard is that one meeting became a little heated as the signaller on that particular workstation and the drivers had different points of view, to the extent that actual operation of the workstation became lost in the noise. The workstation only came back into focus when there was a phone call from a driver waiting at red at Hett Mill.

Actually just crossing logic rather than ARS but yes, East Boldon has auto lower while the others don't.

Had a couple more duplicated-path trains enter from both Northallerton and Morpeth. Stupidly I forgot to note down exactly which ones :doh

Also had an issue with 5M79 - I couldn't get the call on from T503 to platform 3 to set. The route highlighted complete with overlap (which I don't think should happen as the platform was occupied); the overlap dropped out after half a second but the call on aspect wouldn't light so I had to authorise the train past at danger.

And one very minor aesthetic point - the banner repeater for T96 stays on when a route is set.

There's the right way, the wrong way and the railway.

I suspect this is related to the respective commissioning dates.

Sunderland work station was only commissioned in 2002 - the other 3 work stations were commissioned in 1991.

Are the west end bays at Newcastle permissive? Sectional Appendix says yes, but I've got a train at 483 with a route set into (occupied) P12 and the subsidiary won't clear?

I think a handy optional feature might be a train approaching X level crossing message. Its easy to get distracted on the other side of the panel and bring a class one to a halt.

The track layout to the east of Newcastle Central Station is only a shadow of its former self. If you search youtube you will see photographs going back to 20th Century showing the famous diamond cross overs. Pity its all been swept away by modernity.
