Having terrible problems routing from signal 146 (Up slow) to 'empty carriage line'; have to wait until train actually arrives at this signal before I can route successfully. Is this how it should be?

You might find it helpful to read the respective manual before posting questions on the forum. These can be all be found here:

https://www.SimSig.co.uk/Wiki/Show?page=simulations

In terms of your particular query you need to either select the overlap manually using the grey arrows or set the route from the signal in advance first - extract from manual -

Special signalling applies on the Up Slow and Up New Lines at Camden Junction. The overlap ahead of signals 146 and 147 is not selected automatically. Instead you must select it manually. This can be done in either of two ways:

When setting a route up to these signals, click on the appropriate overlap arrow after the exit signal. So to set a route from 149 to 146 with an overlap towards Primrose Hill, click on 149, 146, and then the arrow on the Primrose Hill route, in that order.
The overlap can be swung by clicking the exit signal and then the overlap arrow (e.g. the above overlap can be swung towards Euston by clicking on 146 and then the arrow on the other route).
Setting a route from 146 or 147 will automatically swing the overlap if necessary.

For a train from the Up Slow to Up Empty Carriage Line, click on Signal 149, then 146, and then click on the grey arrow in the middle of the track towards the empty carriage line- this selects the overlap for signal 146. Then, click 146 again, and click either signal 94 (at the end of the Up Empty Carriage Line. That route is approach-released, so signal 146 will remain on red until the train approaches it.

Thanks for the answer about saving a simulation,

The other problem concerning signal 146 is that I can easily set up a route from signal 146 to either the 'up slow' or to Camden Road Jn. by clicking 146 to the next signal (route shows white) and then completing the movement by then clicking signal 149 in rear of 146 and then clicking 146 again followed by a click of the arrow in advance of 146. However, I cannot do this if I want to route a train from signal 146 to the 'up empty carriage line'. The procedure used before does not work for this route. Maybe I am not routing the trains properly and I am well aware of the need to manually set the routes from 146 and, of course, from signal 148 (New Line to Euston or Camden Junction). What am I doing wrong? Contrary to a remark made by another contributor, I have read the Euston Manual in connection with this issue but it was not very helpful.

For the up carriage you first need to set route from 149 to 146 then select the appopiate Grey arrow for overlap (the one leading to the camden rd) then set the route from 146 to the upcarriage line (grey triangle near the B or Sig 94)

The first part you can do (149 to 146 the direction arrow for overlap) can be set first no matter the route you just need to set overlap for the correct onward route.

Thank you Steamer and all who contributed. Explained the process perfectly and I am now in business.
