Refresher now updated - Jan 2017 20/01/2017 at 21:21 #91666

There is a new version of the Refresher out - the program that updates the SimSig software, simulations, timetables, etc. Though you might be able to get it through "Check for updates", I would recommend that you download the system files again at https://www.SimSig.co.uk/File/Details/852

Two main features of this release:
1. Most Loader sims are now included - including simulation, timetable(s), and splash screen(s)
2. The software now has an additional option where you can download updates to sims you already have, but select which new sims you want to install. The existing two options are unchanged apart from bug fixes.

----------

Some additional notes:
1. Some timetables were released previously with a version number in the filename (like Ayton V123.WTT). During the process of including those files in the Refresher, the version number part of the filename was dropped. This causes the Refresher to think you don't have the file so it downloads it alongside the existing. You will therefore end up with two timetables named the same. You can browse through your file system to delete the older one.
2. Sort of the same as above, the initial update when using the "update but I want to choose simulations" option may be relatively large because it sees you have a .sim file but missing timetables/splash screens, so it downloads them. Note that "relatively large" in the context is probably less than 10 megabytes depending on what you already had, so it's not big!
3. Some sims are missing from the Refresher. I'm still checking the consistency of these packages.
4. Much as I'd like to get 732 uploads right first time, chances are a few will need correcting.

Thanks for sticking with us - it's been a rocky few months and I'll have more to say about that soon. Things are slowly getting back to normal again though.

I've been told that Coventry is out of date. Will fix that in the next day or two, along with any others that crop up.

I’m getting, “File does not exist on server,” for every file. Regrettably I can’t give you any more detailed information, as the refresher appears to use HTTPS for its connections so Wireshark is useless. I am running under Wine.

Open your loader, then select a sim (For example Aston), scroll down in the "Description of selected simulation" window on the bottom left and it will show you where the sim is installed. Do the same for the second instance.

This will allow you to go and delete the second instance of all the sims.

Ive had a look at this, the paths for one of each duplicate seem to lead to a folder which no longer exists.

It must exist else SimSig wouldn't find it. What are the two paths in question?

Coventry updated; Leeds Ardsley, Leeds Northwest, Swindon/Didcot, and Westbury added. Some timetables added to King's Cross.

Many thanks to Mark265 and Steamer for their help.

Thanks for this. Just wanted to point out, however, that the new splash images for East Coastway appear to be corrupt/invalid. I have tried updating twice just to be sure that they weren’t corrupted during download. Opening in GHex shows that the new files are all just a series of null bytes.

Just been through to tidy up my Timetable folder in instances where the original WTT hasn't been overwritten and it looks like 2 versions of the 2009 WTT for NE Wales have been downloaded.

One is titled 'North East Wales 2009' and the other 'newales 2009'. I suspect the latter one is the erroneous one.

"North East Wales 2009" is the latest one, I made the name a bit more sensible when I added a version number.

Assuming you didn't get both in the same update.

Geoff, you're probably already aware, but Lancing is missing from the Updater.

Only 'North East Wales 2009' is showing in the Updater, so I assume he didn't get 'newales2009' through the updater.

I've seen it now. I'll have a play when I get home from work.

I've had no issues updating SimSig (or doing a pretty fresh install) through Wine, on Mac and on Linux Mint.

I discovered the problem was having a Wine that was configured without SSL/TLS support. I didn’t expect this because the license manager always worked fine, but adding it has fixed the refresher. That left only a few that wouldn’t download; I then found WINE bug 29159, on which one commenter muttered about installing Internet Explorer breaking things; I tried a fresh ~/.wine without IE installed and this fixed the remaining failures. It seems that, these days, the simplifier works even without installing IE (it used not to). The train list shows an error message when you open it and right-clicking doesn’t work (though it does show the list properly), but I don’t really care as I am happy enough with the legacy train list.

The Updater doesn't contain the latest versions of Swindon and Westbury (Mantis 16510)

I have:

\SimSig\SimSig\simulations\aston.sim
\SimSig\SimSig\simulations\simulations\aston.sim

Only the latter folder doesn't exist....! And no, its not hidden.

I can only guess but did you download aston before the lastest update.
if you did then that would be why, as aston was converted to update install on the latest release, prior to the jan update to the loader aston needed to be installed via an exe from site.

if you have not updated to that latest updater I would do so by downloading the updated system files from site (link at top of page in first post) and running the updater after you have installed the update (Geoff recomends updated the loader via the installer package from the download section)

None of this explains why the loader is seeing files and folders the posters says are deleted.

He edited the post as I was creating mine, so did not see the addition of the .sim at the time

Now, i could be wrong, but i'm trying to remember. I'[m sure the sims were in the SimSig/SimSig/simulations/simulations folder, but i moved them into just /SimSig/SimSig/simulations. This was before the latest loader update. Then on updating the loader, the duplicates appear.

My personal view is you should delete all your SimSig files, and install them in the recommended default location.
