Hi All Apologies in advance for maybe asking silly questions, but can anybody help with the following? I'd like to play the Exeter sim, together with its associated timetables. I have downloaded the .WTT file (do I also need to download the .WTR file as well?) and when I unzip it, it cannot open as I get a message saying...cannot open this file there is no .wtt file associated with it. I have looked on the web to try and find a file that can open it, but without success. Any help for this struggler would be welcome! Cheers Log in to reply |

The timetable consists of two separate parts (the .wtt file which is the timetable and the .wtr file which contains the "rules" - e.g. train A must not leave X until train B has arrived at Y). You need both files to run the sim properly. They need to go in a sub-folder of the folder where you have exeter.exe installed. For example, if exeter.exe is in your /Program Files/SimSig folder, the original Exeter installation program should already have created a sub-folder at /Program Files/SimSig/Exeter. If you look in that sub-folder it should already contain amongst other things a .wtr and a .wtt file which are the default timetable supplied with the sim. Any additional pairs of timetable files for Exeter need to go in the same sub-folder. Then, when you load the sim and click on New, you will get a dialogue screen showing the timetables in the sub-folder and asking you to select one. Many thanks postal...I've managed to place the .WTT file across into the Exeter subfolder, but...your'e not going to believe this, I've forgotten where I downloaded the .WTT file from as I still need to download the .WTR file! Thanks (and I promise not to bother you again!) Log in to reply |

Right, I've sorted that out (I find the site difficult to navigate through) but I have another problem... 7£15 comes to a dead stop either on the Stamford Up fast or slow at a red signal (not sure sig no) waiting for a route to P'boro Eastfield which I cannot find on the diagram. I have tried routeing along up fast/slow but get message wrong route. What is the correct route?

Thanks Aaron, I can now see the signal refs when I right click. I have also printed off hard copy of sigs. Can't find E42 though.....any idea where it is? At the moment I'm cancelling all trains wanting this route from Ketton (I'm fairly local to this area) Also ex signalman from the far off BR (WR) days, so only familiar with normal size and miniature routye setting/signalling levers!! Thanks for the kind words Aaron...I was getting very frustrated yesterday trying to navigate around the site and was only going round in circles! I managed to play a Peterboro game yesterday for over 3 hours and semmed to get a score? of 98%. Can't remember which scenario, but not too busy. Also played it in beginner perfect mode. I think I'll continue with the P'boro scenarios as I like a challenge and fast learner. I look forward to joining a multi player game and would love to chat to other forum users on my experiences as an ex signalman based mainly between Severn Tunnel Jct and Cardiff. Wow, those old photo's brought a tear to my eye! I remember Newport East very well. It sat on the station end of the bridge and had marvellous views. In those days the main boxes in the area (except Ebbw Jct and East Usk) didn't have a permanent telephonist (booking boy to those who don't know the difference! but were required to register train entries for a short period of time every so often. Newport East/West, Gaer Jct and AD Jct were all such boxes. As a telephonist, you were not allowed officially anyway to route and/or signal trains. However, one Signalman who was nicknamed 'The Vicar' for obvious readings would let me run amok while he worked on his Sermons. Oh Happy days!!

Sorry have to differ here. I Was Booking Boy at Newport 1951-1954 at EBBW, GAER ,NEWPORT WEST, NEWPORT EAST,EAST USK. NEWPORT WEST booked passenger train Arrivals and departures only.AD Jc no booking exept once a year for Marks purposes.All the rest full booking by a BOOKING BOY. Hi Didcot, I'm afraid you have me at a disadvantage. If memory serves, there was a booking boy at Ebbw Jcn, then nobody (except Signalmen at AD Jct/Gaer Jct) til a booking boy at Newport West. No booking boy onwards towards the East until East Usk (100 yds from where I lived in Newport). This was 1957 and afterwards, cos in 1960 ish, I got control of my first box (Grade 4!) at Corporation Road on the branch between East Usk and Uskmouth. I actually operate a Westinghouse L style frame on a daily basis at Otahuhu Box in Auckland, New Zealand. Should really give them some info about it. L frames are still used in: Otahuhu Papakura Plimmerton (as required) Porirua Tawa (as required) A Box Wellington - was 127 levers as installed.
