Hi all, I'm a fairly long-time player of SimSig and am a bit of a sucker for trying to sort out major disruption on sims. While I've found I like Feltham as it offers a decent chance to actually sort the train service out and turn trains at various locations to get back on time, I'm now up for another challenge with a different sim. I'm open to suggestions - which ones do you find satisfying to sort out and play on through disruption? Cheers, Joe Log in to reply |

Have you tried the Derby save that was posted by the late Max Anderson?

Motherwell. I love causing mayhem on Motherwell. Plenty of places to turn trains, and run express ( as we do in real life anyway), also plenty of diversionary routes. I.e via Hamilton, Via mainline, Via Bellshill. Diesel trians that are bound for Rutherglen East Jn can be diverted via Whifflet with some TOCs. LTS seems to be very well-suited to this because the entire LTS network is simulated so you really can play line-controller. There are plenty of places to turn trains short, particularly in the down direction I find. However, it's quite a simple network so there are perhaps not too many different things you can do. Marylebone might also suit. The longer-distance trains to Birmingham spend a good chunk of their journey off-sim unfortunately and there aren't many obvious places to turn up trains. However, a lot of the more local services to places like Banbury, Bicester North, High Wycombe and Gerrards Cross stay fully under your control, and if you play full LUL you have a lot of the Metropolitan line with options to divert stopping trains onto the fast lines and various other diversions you can make (e.g. Chesham trains to Amersham) and a few places where you could turn a train. The only problem I find is that disruption on LUL tends to get a bit samey both in how it happens and how you fix it and when I played the sim there was no BLOK functionality, so you can't make trains booked to arrive on the local arrive on the fast without going in and editing the timetable yourself. The benchmark time for sorting it all out (excluding the Matlock branch) is around 3-4 hours- that's without any short forming or other amendments. Two tips: one of the trains phoning at the start is requesting the Matlock token- make sure you grant this pronto, and there are trains queueing at most sidings- this includes most of the morning's ECS from Etches Park and Central Rivers. There might also be an issue on the single line to Alrewas, I can't remember. I haven't played it for a while, but the North London Line (particularly the era when some trains extended to Woolwich) was fun to do service recovery on. Lots of opportunities for short workings - do you suspend the Woolwich service altogether, for example, to recover the service on the rest of the line? Decisions, decisions ...
