Question about "request license unlock" 15/05/2017 at 20:26 #95115

Hello!

Most of my simulations is locked to another computer (Computer A), which I don't have access to at the moment. The computer the simulations is locked to, is my main computer, and that's where I want the simulations.

I study in another city; 8 hours with train from where I live, to be precise. I have my own apartment here, and use another computer (Computer B).
I won't move back home until the summer vacation, and then I will primarily use the other computer (A). After summer vacation, I will move back to my apartment, and use computer B.

So here's my issue. The simulations is currently locked to computer A, which is home, 8 hours from here. I want to play the simulations while I'm in my apartment (computer B), and then I need to request a license unlock, which might take up to 28 days and cannot be used repeatedly. When the summer comes, I want play on the simulations on my other computer (Computer A), and when I get back after summer, I want to play on this computer again (B).

So my question is: How many times can I request a license unlock?
Right now it's on computer A, but I want to move it to computer B. In the summer I want to move it back to computer A, and after the summer I want to move it back to computer B again.

How many times can I request a license unlock? How often can I do it? Do I really have to wait 28 days? Is there any way I can have one simulation locked to two computers at the same time? Is there any other options for me?

Thank you!

I would have thought a laptop would be a much better solution all round, not just for Simsig. Must be a nightmare trying to keep 2 desktop computers in step.

Computer B (The one I have in my apartment) is actually a laptop. Microsoft Surface Pro with a docking station, so I use it just like a normal desktop computer. I will of course take this computer with me home in the summer, but I barely use it when I have my other computer available.

If you know you're not going to be using a computer for a while, then you can first deallocate the licenses from your machine before heading away. I always used to do it so that I left all licenses deallocated and only allocated them when I wanted to use them, deallocating them after. I use my laptop all the time now so that isn't now an issue. Just a thought.

Thank you for a great answer! I completely forgot that I could deallocate the license.
Can I deallocate the license as many times as I wish?

I had to request license unlock now, because I don't have access to the other computer. But now I will remember to just deallocate it next time!

Yes, allocate and deallocate to your heart's content.

There's no set limit. However, frequent requests would start to raise suspicion that the system was being abused. At the very least, the Admins would get irritated!

That said- request an unlock now for every simulation you need unlocking- that way the Admin can release them all in one go. Its been mentioned before that it's much easier if you request for every simulation than it is for them to track down every license you own and release it.

Very unlikely.

No, see posts above for what to do if you're swapping frequently.

I didn't take the time, but I think I had to wait no more than 10 minutes. Thanks, Meld!

I don't think I've ever seen an unlock request older than a day, I think between us 'jailers' most are 'unlocked' within hours rather than days...time off for good behaviour?

I can only help one person a day. Today's not your day. Tomorrow doesn't look too good either.

Just a thought experiment for you, not a proper suggestion...
If you were to buy two licenses for the simulation(s), you could assign one license to each machine.
