:O It's actually bent the roof at the front of the train, above the cab, inwards :O Driver is extremely lucky he survived that too but I am left wondering if he will be too shaken by it to go back to work now. I wouldn't blame him if he perhaps went for a stiff drink once he had been tested for drugs and alcohol as with standard procedure. Out of interest anyone know what Power Car was involved? Looks like 43342 or at least 4334x but can't fully tell from the photo. Thanks for sharing. I've heard various reports of the speed of the collision varying from 90 to the 120 mentioned above. Linespeed at Lavington is 110 MPH which drops down to 100mph on the london side of the former station site.

Power car was 43042. I understand that the train was doing just over 90 mph at the time of impact. Train was hauled to Westbury by 59201 at 10mph due to severe flats on all wheels caused by the emergency brake application. Set was taken to Bristol PM depot overnight.

A lot of discussion at work luckly there was another HSS driver on board the train travelling back to his home depot and assisted the driver and protected the running lines from any other traffic becoming involved.The driver broke his left wrist i saw another foto of the tree wedged in the cab after impact i think the driver being a small chap saved him i hope he recovers well cheers mick Log in to reply |

Seems it is not only GWML suffering from tree troubles lately. On the LTSR (London, Tilbury and Southend Railway - otherwise known as c2c) today a tree fell and I understand it has become tangled in the OHLE cables. Here is a photo of the mess with credit due to @AMonkster on Twitter. The tree fell somewhere between Barking and London Fenchurch Street meaning that all c2c services were diverted to Liverpool Street. Also, a tree caused problems for commuters on Chiltern Railways (Amersham 'branch'  today too, although I'm not sure if there is a photo available for that anywhere.So that's tree troubles caused by trees lately - get it?!!

Trust me, it's a national problem.. I had 4 down yesterday and that was only on my shift. The Colas working from Dollads to Dagenham stopped short of a tree on the line this morning as well..

Jesus !!. Didn't hear about that one. I hit one with a Turbo by Appleford Crossing Box (When it was still there) on the Down Road some years ago and that was bad enough.
