how about a hornsey depot sim

showing all lines in the Hornsey TMD and you route out of the depot

Would be a pretty small area of control and wouldn't be overly fun as it'd be busy in the morning then quieten right down whilst all the trains are passing by on the lines outside then get a bit active again around the evening peak so you'd have a number of hours between both peaks doing pretty much nothing. Also, it'd require a developer to do it but right now they're probably all too busy working on other simulations and so the time spent on such a little simulation as Hornsey EMUD would be a bit of a waste - I'm sure others would agree that the time developing this would be far better spent working on a main line simulation (as in a non-depot simulation) or even a simulation of a heritage railway which I seem to recall was suggested recently.

That said, there are a few other depots I can think of (and no, not Bounds Green) that'd probably be a lot busier than Hornsey.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

I'd expect writing a small sim like this would be a dawdle- if we had the information. Writing the timetable other than for booked arrivals/departures would be OK but everything else is probably 'as required' movements which would not be my idea of fun to write.

Now theres a thought -

4 boxes (Shepcote Lane - Tinsley Main Yard - Tinsley Secondary Yard and TInsley East)
3 yards - Main Secondary and Express freight plus reception sidings for main
2 Sheds - Main Depot on the bank and the yard servicing shed
2 Steel Terminals SMACC & SPACE - both with their individual operating procedures.

If only it was possible to bring a train into the Reception drop the locos and then split the wagons and shunt them over the hump

Nice

Passed the age to be doing 'Spoon Feeding' !!!

The idea of 'dividing' trains on the move has been considered (For Lickey and Glasgow QS bankers), can't recall whether it's still a live idea or not.

I suspect the big issue (apart from trains splitting as they go over the hump) will be writing a "timetable" - how on earth do you create a timetable for shunting moves when they're the same moves every time but with different lengths left/picked up in each location every time it happens (and, for flat shunting, the end of the "pull out" move being decided by when the rear of the move clears the last points that need to be used). If someone can work out how to do realistic shunting (flat shunting as well as humping) it'll make an enormous difference - apart from anything else it'd revolutionise some of what Clive & his merry beta wreckers have been trying to do at Euston.

Has anyone here tried the train sim called 'Freight Yard Manager'? It's essentially a train sim where you can shunt trains in prototypical yards based in the USA & Canada and you send them out to other players. You can also run non-stop trains, maintain locos & stock, use turntables & use humps too.

I'd thought I bring it up because its something that might help to relate to what we're trying to suggest here.

I am a member there myself and I find it enjoyable.

Why would an IECC be controlling a yard? Most likely hand points or a small NX panel.
There aren't really any signals in a yard either. All handsignals from the shunter.

Well, if you look at these pics at http://www.trainyardtech.com/PCSGall.htm which I just google image searched, the hump yard control is all IECC style displays.

Remember that SimSig can replicate most pannel types in an IECC-style format like it has always been. The only difference is that there is no 'complete route setting' as normal involed exept those entering or exiting the yard to the mainline, you only switch & lock points. The the loco shunter does the rest by radioing the box for what point to change and what other movements it needs to do. The point numbers, signal numbers and shunter's train describer will have to be displayed for this to work.

Admittedly not quite the same thing, but Dollands Moor is worked by Ashford IECC. (And would you believe there was a real battle to allow Ashford to listen in on the DM radio channel!)
