Certainly can't see a problem with either of them being done and I've checked the areas that cannot be simulated. That said, having done a bit of a search on Google, I would prefer Plymouth to Leicester as the station layout looks slightly more interesting than at Leicester. Leicester's rather busier than Plymouth though - surely even more operationally interesting if it's on a more constrained layout?

On the other hand leicester is a much more intresting area with plenty of freight, whereas Plymouth has only roughley hourly Cross Country and First Great Western expresses and limited local workings to Gunnislake and Cornwall, and only occasional freight working. To add to this there is only two more platforms at Plymouth compared to Leicester. On the other hand a plymouth Simulation could include the mechanical boxes down through Cornwall to add intrest to the simulation. Personally I Would rather have A Leicester Simulation, added bonus is A chain With Trent on Leicester although Plymouth and Exeter would Chain Log in to reply |

Having a look on the Wikipedia article for Plymouth station you'll see this image of the layout and it is for that reason I would prefer Plymouth as it's got two tracks at either end. When I did a Google search for Leicester railway station I found an aerial image of the station which seemed to show it had four lines at at least one end of the station. Therefore, Plymouth station itself may need more careful regulation of trains, especially during delays, where-as regulation and delays may not have such a knock on effect for services at Leicester since there appears to be more tracks available for use. Isn't Plymouth already planned? In Exeter, "connect to external signal box" - gives choices of Bristol, Westbury and Plymouth.

I believe that is done to "future-proof" the simulations in-case one of the other simulations is made. Therefore, if Plymouth was made then Exeter wouldn't need an 'update' just to allow it to be chained to Plymouth.

The throat to the north of Leicester station comprises only two running lines out of the four platforms; a single reversible slow line exists beyond there, but this isn't directly accessible from the station without conflicting with movements on at least the Up Main (it's on the formation of the former Goods lines, which by their nature wouldn't necessarily have convenient connections into the passenger station!). There's also regulating potential a-plenty for freight traffic which conflicts heavily with fast line passengers on its way into and out of Mountsorrel and (to a lesser extent) Humberstone Road, and (pre-2009) also needs to be slotted in between 4-5tph between Kettering and Wellingborough. Quite a challenge, I'd say! Log in to reply |

Personally I would go for Leicester first, as the earlier posts have stated there is a much more diverse and frequent train service. Number of route miles controlled is higher. There are some pics of Leicester in my Midlands gallery, including this one of the station area: http://andrew426.fotopic.net/p61282048.html Log in to reply |

I'd quite like to get my teath into a Plymouth to Penzance Sim- having spent many railrovers flailing up and down behind Cl 50s in the '80s. One day we will get the data I'm sure. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

It would certinaly be more intresting than just Plymouth as through cornwall it is a mix of Absolute block semaphore with some Track circuit Block on old OS panels in places, also more variaty than just Plymouth because of the China Clay workings.

The reversible Slow line is certainly used by the Ivanhoe line trains that call at Syston, as the latter's only platform is on it. I suspect it is also used for Peterboro line trains, especially in the up direction. As well as connections at Leicester North Jn and Humberstone Road Jn, trains from the Slow line can still run into Platform 4. There were four tracks prior to the resignalling, but I think the easternmost pair were always slow lines, not goods lines. I'm fairly sure there was a double set of crossovers between the fast and slow lines somewhere north of the station. Log in to reply |

Yes, numerous passenger trains, including all 'Ivanhoe' locals, use that reversible Slow line. There's no route into any of the platforms without crossing to the Up Main though, as Andrew's photograph of the panel shows (my post was in response to UKTM's suggestion that regulating ought to be easy with the number of running lines available!). I thought the second pair of lines were goods lines, pre-resignalling - certainly that was the case through Loughborough, and that's supported by the 'reproduction' of the Sectional Appendix here. Indeed, I'm sure they remained designated as goods lines through Loughborough until the introduction of the 'Ivanhoe' service, initially between there and Leicester.

I was in Penzance the other week and thought it would be nice to have as a simulation. According to Quail , the line from Plymouth to Penzance is controlled by 8 boxes, allowing alot of scope for multiplayer.

Add to that the boxes at St Blazey and Goonbarrow Junction that control the Newquay branch and you have 10. Log in to reply |

With Penzance you could maybe also have the running lines, and the carraige depot incorparted as well (as suggested in a previous post)
