Auto joining 0E951??? 12/08/2010 at 18:00 #1611

Playing 1985 v1.112 timetable, i hv 7E951 stopped at Broms UGL. 0E951 is behind 7E951, not joined with it, but it says 'waiting to depart but 7E951 in front'.
Now, why's 0E951 not joining with 7E951 or vice versa, even when it's 0051.

The use of the UGL may be the problem as I notice 7E951 is timetabled for "Bromsgrove (South)" with no mention of using the UGL (which would appear as 'UGL' in the platform column). Scratch that, using either Up Main or Up Goods Loop works.

That said, when I tested this out myself I noted I had to fiddle with 0E951 a bit whilst it was in the Bankers Spur - reversing it or telling it to shunt forward after you've reassigned the headcode worked for me but then once I had signalled it up to 7E951 I had to step-up the timetable to make the join actually happen successfully.

Assuming you have the save file, try opening it, go to F2 Train List, right click on 0E951 and under Timetable Options select Edit Timetable, then go to the Location List, click on the second of the two "Bromsgrove (South)" locations and click the big "Set as current/next location" button and the join will then work successfully.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

Thanks UKTM. finally it worked

Is that the only way the join will ever work (in v2.201) between the banker and the assisting train?

No, normally they would join automatically. Other trains than 0E951 do so.

I'm also having similar problems....Can't get 0E161 to join a freight in the UGL at Bromsgrove. TT list tells me that 0Z00 (the LE that enters the TT at Longbridge at 0001hrs) has been terminated and has no more timetable trips.

Also, I'm trying to run round the parcels train in Pl 4. Managed to get loco on to up main, but cannot find a way to get it up to Sig 448 via the Up Relief...which is what the TT calls for. Other than that, an enjoyable sim.

1) You need to go into F2, right click on the TD for 0Z00 and then under Timetable click on Run to another Timetable. You then need to find 0E161 in the drop-down list. Once that is selected, you should be able to signal forward from the spur and buffer up to the service train. It should then join automatically. Don't forget that the outlet signal from the loop (171) has a three minute delay from setting until it clears so that you will have time for a PNB after you have set the route before the train sets away.

2) Depends where you are on the Up Main as the line from Awre is Up Main all the way into Gloucester. When I've run the sim, I signal the train from 358 (west end of P4) to 162 on the Up Main, but using the white triangle rather than the signal head to set the route. I can't remember if that takes the loco past 31 or not. Then signal back from either 31 or 415 to 233 on the Up Rlf, then 429. This will turn the loco round at 448 and you then signal back from 448 to 358 to clear the route back into P4 for the re-couple. You can just as easily use the Up Main rather than the Up Rlf and I don't think there are any penalties (signalling from 31 or 415 to 35 and then 429) so I wouldn't worry about sticking rigidly to the timetable designations in a situation like that. It depends what else is about at the time you need to make the move.

Post back if there are any more problems.

Thanks Postal,

I have sorted out the paper train at P4.

Did what you suggest re Lickey Banker but I now get a message in F2 'waiting for joining train 7E16' which already occupies the UGL at Bromsgrove.

Two tricks which might assist the join.

1) Go into F2, right click on 0E161, then Timetable and Edit Timetable. If the current location (bold type) is not the line of the TT containing the Join instruction, click on that line to highlight then click on the Current/Next Location button.
2) F2, Signalling and click on Shunt Forward.

There are other tricks but one of those 2 should work.
