Situation Update 26/07/2011 at 18:12 #18384

As has already been mentioned, an updated South Humberside was run at the July meet. We ran V2.223.88 which contains a bunch of fixes and changes to the previous public release (V2.218.76). It ran pretty flawlessly all afternoon.

Only 5 minor issues were reported. I will list the issues found at the meet in the Sim Problems thread later today.

I shall correct these in due course and we will make a full public release. In the meantime if anyone finds anything else, please let me know. The next public release should ,ore or less cement the modern mode but work is still required on the 1980's mode. There are several bits missing and some changes to be done, too much for the next release so they will be added in the future.

Release candidate 1 is with my testers and so far so good.

Numerous resolved issues have been closed and only one very minor issue raised so far. As long as I get no further reports of problems, release isn't too far away.

Right...Its been a while since I posted an update so here's where we are....

Unfortunately, some family issues and work has had to take precedence so progress has been slower than I had hoped. Still, work has progressed and I am particularly lucky as I now have a tester who is very very familiar with the area. This has lead to a significant number of changes, nearly all to the operation of the sim. At the moment, we are concentrating on modern mode. Once that's complete, I will then update the 1980's mode which will be mostly layout changes.

There is still a significant amount of work to do so an updated release won't be made near term.

Its been a while since I posted an update so I thought I better add a note or two about where we are....

Things are definitely moving forward. Several major stumbling blocks have meant that even testing the sim has been problematic. I am glad to say that I've now got those dealt with and the sim is now in much better state and is definitely usable. As a result, as I have thrown a couple of test versions of the sim over the wall to my testers over the last couple of weeks and we are now up to build 95. As a reference, the public released version was build 76 though the increase in build number doesn't reflect the mountain of changes that have been made.

The testing has meant a lot of outstanding issues have not been closed and the bug/to-do list is now down to less than 70 which is about the lowest its been in quite a long while (I even dealt with another one just this morning...yeay). It now looks like I am dealing with the list items quicker than the testers can add them which is a good thing! May that trend continue!!

Still, there is more work still to be done and so no release is imminent but we are definitely on the downhill slope towards the finish......

Chris - is that still the case as I'm hanging onto my 1977 timetable which is obviously 1980's mode? I think you mentioned this again a while ago but can't find the relevant post.

Famous last words....." bug/to-do list is now down to less than 70"...Hmmmmm.

Just as I thought I was getting on top of things, a review by my testers doubled the size of the list. Most of the additions are minor, but still a lot to work through. The list is now back down to 53 though, yeay, with most of the work is now concentrated around Scunthorpe.

Having said that, our on-going research has pulled up some interesting information regarding certain locations in the sim. Most of the information will mean only minor changes to the sim at best. However, one part will now need a complete overhaul: the operation of West Burton. This is already in progress though we are already aware we can't replicate the operation 100% correctly. The change at West Burton will also affect how TT's will need to be written for this part of the sim and that information will be included in the manual for the TT writers amongst you.

Obviously, no release is imminent but the work continues......
