People taking part in long sessions might need to take note of this link.

That is why i ALWAYS have breaks so people can move about and have a break
Some people could argue SimSig is mad for your health - your only supposed to look at your pc screen for 20 mins then have a 5-10 min break lol. That is probably why my eyesight is going. You will only be in danger from that clot when you are sat not moving for over 10 hours , even if it just standing up stretching your legs , your fine.

Can Simsig really be considered as bad as an XBox or similar game ! I am not sure it should come with a health warning.

Whilst you may get an intense period of time you generally can sit back and relax, I know this is not the same as some of the current xbox games where my friend can sit in front of his TV for several hours completely unaware of whats going on around him, ive not been like that with Simsig yet.

I think my biggest health risk while playing SimSig is going for occasional smoke...

One game I have that is really intense is the F1 driving game for XBox; hours can go past with me getting nowhere (keep resetting every time I fall off) and it gets really frustrating and annoying. Requires you to grip the controls tightly which is a pain (literally). Probably have a go this evening as the wife is Skyping NZ on the laptop.

My other game is Tiger Woods Golf which is a walk in the park!

i have an xbox and controllers are huge a freind of mine has one too and plays all night now in each hand he as an elongated tendon which produces a hard lump in the palm of both hands and even he admits the controller causes this through playing for too long

with sim sig though its a pc game and they arnt as bad. with a pc or laptop you can set things up to be more ergonomical. just treat it as if you would use a computer at work. every 40 mins or so go make a cup of tea. just that will get the blood moving. will also give hands a rest. just a case of being sensible me thinks. you gotta ask why he was on there for over 12 hours a day in the first place once every now and again fair enough but evey day seems a bit much

when your legs feel like you need to move them. move them. dont let the pins and needles begin before you do anything.

I would suggest that if people are going to give medical advice, they make sure it is correct. There is no "set" time for a clot to form. People with particular blood dynamics may fine clots forming after 1 - 2 hours. Some people may find it takes days or more. The fact is that any extended period of time sitting in the same position with little movement puts you in the risk area for DVT. To understand why this is, we need to look at how the blood is moved through the deep veins. When you move your leg, tense your calf etc, the muscles contract around the vein. This forces the blood up your leg, and one-way valves prevent the blood flowing backwards. When you sit in the same position your legs are not moving, and thus not moving the blood. The blood pools, and the clot starts to form. It sticks to the endothelium of the vein, and when large enough, a bit breaks off and can flow up your vein. If this reaches your lungs, it can be fatal. Just stretch your legs whilst playing, get up regulary and walk about and you lessen the risk.

So looking at it like this, we all know that we have to consume copious amounts of caffeine to stay awake during these longs games. By drinking caffeine we have to go the to toilet, therefore this combats the possibility of blood clots by forcing us to get up.

SimSig is better for your health than XBox games- you have to move wrists, hands and fingers on a PC, as opposed to thumbs only!

I don't sit still much whilst playing games, not SimSig or anything else. SimSig hasn't ever and probably will never cause me any serious health concerns apart from once on a Westbury multiplayer when I routed a freight into a platform as booked (don't think it was given a platform number) to turn around and it departed of it's own accord (didn't even call in to ask for authority to proceed) and I was slightly shaken by it - heart was racing slightly - as it was heading towards and got very close to another train. Still, thanks for the concern.
