Westbury v2.227 Down Yard 26/08/2011 at 21:47 #20181

Hello all,

Now we have the telephone option back for the yards at least, I notice whatever yard you allocate the train to enter at the Down Yard, it will sometimes give you another yard to enter anyway. So, if you have a Merehead to Botley stone train that runs round in sidings 1-5, the shunter could ask you to route it to New Sidings, however the run around loco will appear in sidings 1-5 and on testing this, a call back to request permission to shunt back to the yard can give you New Sidings request again. Once the loco has coupled and is ready to leave, it will pop out of sidings 1-5 (even though New Sidings is not linked to this siding lot at all) so it all becomes a bit odd really.

I would have thought it would allocate it to whatever sidings number you put in the platform section but it doesn't however there must be a way round this problem to make sure the outgoing service or run around loco comes out the same sidings as the inward service does?

Any help on the matter would be appreciated!

Cheers,

James.

I don't think there is a solution to that at the moment.

Peter, I think one solution that could work can be found in the same way the slots in the Toton yards in Trent work. For locos running around there should not be such a delay before a slot is given anyway. I doubt such an amount of custom code would be needed for a relatively small problem though. The layout of the yards is slightly wrong anyway because we wanted to keep Westbury compatible with old timetables (at least we wanted that 2 years ago). What is currently the Down yard 1-5 is in reality a single dead end (no1 down Siding) and you can't run around any trains on the new sdgs.

To be honest, as Daan alludes to, our original remit was simply to refresh the things and get them running though for various reasons that involved a lot more than originally envisaged as core code was updated and various quick wins were found. In fact the whole sim (and SwinDid; possibly Exeter too) needs a thorough overhaul as there are questions over TC lengths and even signal numbers. For example the line towards Wilton Jn was 7 miles out (now fixed).

On a related note, I'm playing the Westbury Chaos TT.

0X04 wants to come out of the Up Yard, into the Back Road, and straight back into the Up Yard (presumably on a different road). I was just wondering if it is realistic for me to have to call the Up Yard to ask them to accept a train that they have themselves just sent out to change roads.

I mean, if a train comes out of a yard and back into the same yard, would the supervisor not be expecting that train to be signalled back in almost immediately, especially as the timings for 0X04 are all 00:00?

So no, that is not realistic (A slot should be asked, but it should be given instantly)
