Hi everyone, I am from Hong Kong and I think I've just been addicted to SimSig... I made a video on Youtube playing Royston. It is targeting beginners. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jOkCE8MYzzA As I am just a new player, I wish experts (or experienced users) can give some comments on my video, e.g. how much it helps, anything wrong in concept. The video has subtitles included, but not any sound. Make sure you've turned on the subtitles. Log in to reply |

The only problem I see with it is that especially on routes which are unlikely to conflict with another train; that the route should be set earlier than when it is approaching a signal displaying a danger aspect. A good general guide to go with for setting routes is when a train only has 2 proceed (green) aspects ahead of them, you should set the next route. Obviously approach controlled signals are completely different and you can set them much later; if it's approach controlled from danger then you can set it as late as you like (just try and keep the train moving still; preferably before the last caution signal); approach controlled from caution; then probably before it passes the double caution/last proceed signal preceding it. Obviously that is going into a bit too much detail for a video like this; the video itself is good although it could do with a bit of sound, if it's not speech explaining it then maybe even a little music? That's really good- well done! I think we have an area on the Wiki for tutorial videos so we can link to it from there. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Haven't watched it through fully yet but initially looks good. It's good you're using Royston - the other tutorial video out there used Trent which is perhaps a bit of an advanced simulation for beginners. I'm a bit concerned that you're running the simulation at any speed faster than Normal. If a beginner needs to use this video tutorial to help them then running the simulation at such a high speed may not be totally helpful to them. For example, they could be running the same simulation at the same time but at normal speed - that first train on the video could have reached Royston but on their game could only just be approaching Ashwell & Morden. Still, it is good that you are using the Royston simulation (which is itself considered 'the beginners simulation'), the use of subtitles is also good, and it's great that there are tutorial videos out there.
