Hello all,

I have managed to get stumped by the confusing diagrams on FGW local services around Exeter. If anyone knows or has observed what happens to stock on my questions it would be appreciated! Spending a whole day at St Davids isn't my thing

These are for the current 2011 TT in force:

1. The 1708 ex Barnstaple (2E45) terminates at 1822 in P2 at Exeter St Davids, so the Traveline told me. Does this stable then work a night Exeter - Exmouth after or is it ECS to the depot doing a double reverse in the process?

2. is 2T19 1430 Exeter - Paignton the unit off of the 2E75 1235 Plymouth - Exeter? The latter terminates in P5 and the former is booked from P6. If it is the same unit, is it an ECS shunt to 6 or would 2E75 terminate in P6 instead?

3. Talking of the above diagram, it later finishes on the 2R90 1543 Paignton to Exeter Central then (I presume) ECS to St James for the 1705 St James to Exeter. Having initially terminated at 1644, I doubt it works the 1648 after as that leaves it under 4 minutes to a shunt from P3 to P2.
After working the 1705 St James - St Davids on 2E43, does this work ECS back to base?

4. If the above does not work the 1648 Exeter Central - Paignton, where does the stock come from for it, or if the above DOES work it, where is the 1705 St James to St Davids stock from?

5. 2E58 2104 Exmouth - Exeter St Davids terminates at 2135 on P3, and there is a 2138 to Exmouth but this starts on P1. I assume the unit fpr the 2138 is either from the unit in P2 (as per question 1 above) or from the unit in the next question. Thus I would assume the 2236 Exeter St Davids - Exmouth is worked from 2E58...if that makes sense!

6. 2E49 1925 Exmouth - Exeter St Davids terminates in P3 but cannot find an forward working. See question 5 above if that is correct?

7. The 2024 Barnstaple - Exeter Central terminates at 2135, but as there is no more Exeter Central starters from there, I assume its an Exeter Central - Exeter DMUD or St Davids ECS turn after?

Kind Regards,

James.

James.
I believe on a Saturday this set goes back ECS to Bristol or Cardiff. Atleast it did last time I was down in Exeter.

Ah ha! Is that possibly the 5U32 'Ghost Train' that works the Exeter - Bristol ECS? I am unsure if it still runs, last reports of that running was posted in 2010 but no posts whats on it have been done since, not to say that it doesn't run ever of course.

Thank you though Karl, I'm sure someone will be on to confirm or correct.

Regards,

James.

I know back in June on the bank holiday. (Saturday Service with extras.) It ran back to Canton.

Sam Tugwell may no more, or his cousing Tristen both being local to the area.

Was that an arriva hire in 150 by any chance? Otherwise as far as I am aware, ATW at canton refuses to take anything FGW wise?

Was indeed an Arriva 150. apparently paths exist for it to either go to Bristol or Canton.

1.I believe 2E45 forms 2T25, the 1856 EXD-PGN. That runs from Platform 1. The set off 2E45 has to wait until some other services use platform 1 before shunting in to the platform to form it.

2.The set off 2E75 (2x153s) goes ECS to the depot and later comes out to work 2C51, the 1753 EXD-PNZ. 2T19 is formed off 2E31, 1249 PGN-EXD.

3.2R90 does form 2E43. This set then forms 2F47, 1750 EXD-EXM.

4.2T22, 1648 EXC-PGN is formed off 2E37, 1553 EXM-EXD which then runs ECS to Exeter Central.

5.I believe 2F57, 2138 EXD-EXM is formed off 2E55, 2013 PGN-EXD which terminated in Platform 1 but will have to shunt out of the way of other trains that use Platform 1. The set off 2E58 goes empty to Exeter DMUD.

6.I believe the set off 2E49 goes empty to Exeter DMUD.

7.The set off 2R98, 2024 BNP-EXC works ECS via Exmouth Jn to Exeter St Davids to work 2F59, 2236 EXD-EXM.

Hope that helps, any more questions feel free to ask, I might be able to help.
