I'm Andrew; new to SimSig and liking what I've found (I can't actually recall how I found it, but I'm glad I did). Very much enjoyed my first network game tonight; thanks TRC666 for hosting, and all the others for tolerating my stupid questions. (I've long felt that the amazing thing about the railways is that they run at all: It's like a machine the size of a country, with different parts built to different plans, some original components over a hundred years old, millions of moving parts, countless idiots trying to break it; and it's been left outside all winter.) Perhaps it's not really my place to say this as an ex-railwayman, but I think we must put it down to the people who work there - the front line staff that is, who turn out & turn up & who usually manage to keep something moving even in the present mess. But you're dead right, the lack of discretion that's allowed has been part of it too, my partner's nephew is a bobby and isn't allowed to regulate at all - has to do everything by the book regardless of what it does to the service (& even less concern for what it means for the poor passengers). Glad I got out when I did, my poor father would turn in his grave to see it now. Log in to reply |
