I've been asked by a couple of people how I progressed with the timetable I talked about starting a while back.

To answer a few questions:

Yes I have started it, but with getting a new job in the evenings and weekends, and having college in the week finding time to work on it has been hard. For those who are wondering on the era: The timetable is taken from the 6th of September 2010, with all scheduled passenger services included, though I do stress some headcodes are not as they appear in the WTT, though this may change when I gain new sources of information.

What sort of stage of completion am I at?

Well I started with the branch services (Paignton to Exmouth, Exmouth to Barnstaple and Paignton, and Barnstaple to Paignton.) These are all complete, and work properly and have all the relevant ECS trains sorted. One thing I found out was you can't terminate at train in the sim at St James then reverse it via the CE works, you have to terminate it at Exeter Central and go from there. At this point there where around 100 trains in the sim, making up the bulk of the class 2s.

Work then began on the XC trains to and from Paignton and Plymouth, work was quick, as they run to a clock face timetable, once this was finished I had 142 trains in the sim.

So where am I now?

Well the next major step is to add all the FGW HST trains into the sim, this will take a while, as they have odd calling patterns and timings. The next stage after that will be the Honiton trains, though as SWT don't run past Exeter St Davids this won't take a long time.

A completion date?

To be honest I don't know, once I add the trains noted above I will do a private alpha test and clear any initial bugs, I'll then most likely host a public beta depending on any errors found.

After I finish it?

There are a couple of things I could do once the TT is released.

1) Make it chain-able with Bristol; though this may be difficult, as I would have to gather all the Bristol train data manually online, and as we all know how bad National Rail Enquiries is for this sort of thing, I'd rather get hold of the pocket TT like I did for Exeter.
2) Release a Sunday and or Saturday TT, this is more easy to do as I have all the information here.

Any feedback or comments are welcome.

An update

Although I said I would do the FGW HSTS yet, I decided to do the SWT trains this morning as it was something I could get to a finished state before I left for college. All the ECS trains are in including the three way early morning splitter. There are now around 200 trains in the sim.

When I get home tonight I will look at doing the FGW HSTs.

Hi 'headshot119',

Thanks for the updates. I am always pleased to hear about new timetables in the making (particularly modern era ones) and I will certainly look forward to playing with your 2010 timetable. Thanks for all the time and effort you are putting in.

One question I would like to ask is under the train descriptions when bringing up their timetable, will it show the company and maximum speed in addition to the train type? For example on some I have been playing recently you will see something like "XC HST 125" or "FGW DMU 90" etc. While not important, I do find it interesting so just curious as to whether you are able to implement these type of descriptions?

Regards,

James

Hi James,

At the moment, only one or two off the trains have useful descriptions and it's something Sam mentioned when we debugged the first 30 minutes of the timetable (Dam three way splits, dam them to hell) Once all the trains are in, which shouldn't be far off I plan to go back and make the descriptions more relevant. Hopefully something along the lines of :

"XC Voyager (125) Manchester - Paignton."

Thanks for you interest in the timetable by the way.

Karl

Karl - you would be better off starting to put proper descriptions into the timetable as of now, so that you wouldnt have to go through 400 odd trains and put each ones description in. Just a thought... :-)

Well after a bit more work all the UP FGW HSTs are now in, missing two ECS moves but I'll sort that out at a later date.

Note all of them even have proper descriptions.

Keep up the good work, Headshot! Despite all the new-fangled sims that have came about recently, I still love playing Exeter... I'm actually really efficient on that one now (except for the odd level crossing barrier!) so I'm looking forward to your timetable being released!

Thanks for all the encouragement guys. Just a quick update I've done the ECS trains for the early morning HSTs off Exeter, and one for the first Paignton train. Now just need to sort the down trains.

Looking forward to seeing your tt headshot as exeter is the closest sim available to me in cornwall. Another question for you are you including the frieght trains that run through exeter?

I'm in two minds over the freight, I wanted to provide an exact TT to what was booked to run on the 6/09/12 and to my knowledge so far no freight ran on that day. On the other hand I may include some generic freight paths to spruce things up so to speak.

Just a small update, well it's not small but here we go.

All the FGW HSTs are now in, with all required ECS moves, and some shunts they do during the day. Many thanks to MELD for helping me with this.

Some of the class 2 locals between various off sim destinations are now in the TT ready to be cloned, again many thanks to MELD for help with these.

All that is left to do is finish the class 2 local trains and the TT should be ready for an alpha test.
