Reversing at Totton 09/11/2009 at 19:45 #212

I've been recently developing a 2009 SX timetable for the Southampton sim. All fine and good until I try to get a train to reverse in Totton Yard. I initially sent the service from Totton station to Totton Loop, then back to Totton station. This failed. I then looked at the 2005 TT available on this site which supposedly had a solution, by sending the train from Totton station into Totton Sidings and then spawning a new train to run from Totton Sidings back to Totton station.

However, the problem is I cannot seem to get the train to go into Totton Sidings, it just sits on the entrance line to it. This occurs to both my timetable, and the 2005 one which supposedly functions.

Something wrong with my Sim? I also notice my Southampton sim does not render the ">" arrow that appears next to sidings etc.

Thanks for your help.

I would hang fire as Southampton is one of the many older sims that are being updated using newer core codes. Various things have changed on it and trust me you will not have to wait long and it is a major improvement

Hi Jd, I think that the 2005 timetable to which you refer was the first timetable that I had built, the 'work around' at Totton was very much an attempt to do something to get the Romsey shuttles out the way, even though you still had to remove them. I am aiming to upload a new version probably after the meet at Derby, part of which is a change to trains in and out of Northam depot.

Paul

Having given the new version of Soton a try, it seems reversing in Totton loop is now possible, so my timetable can proceed.

I've now finished all the passenger trains and they seem to work well.

The problem I have now is with getting freight trains to enter Eastern Docks/Soton Maritime (Up end). When I route them in, the shunt sigs keep changing from clear to stop, and the "SR" button keeps flashing. I can see no way to stop it doing this! Trains in to Northam Depot seem to work fine, as the "SR" button automatically goes opaque, although it does sometimes cause problems.

Anyone know what's up?

I could be 'clutching at straws' here but if the SR button is flashing then doesn't that mean the shunter is requesting a slot from you to send a train out? The on-screen layout suggests that Eastern Docks will only accept one train at a time, so that means that if a train is in there then you cannot send another train in until the train inside comes back out again.

As such you'll need to click on the white circle for the flashing SR (Slot Release) button to give the shunter the slot then signal the train out of Eastern Docks to wherever it needs to go. If there is no Train Describer (headcode) appearing at Eastern Docks then check the Trains List (press F2 on your keyboard) to see if one is listed there (it'll likely show 'Waiting at red signal' or 'Waiting for right-away' or something like that). Before actually signalling the train you'll want to interpose it's describer at signal 844 then click on the describer to see where you need to send it then route away. Then once the train is cleared you can send your next train into Eastern Docks which involves signalling it to 841 then to the grey arrow above the 'H' in "Southampton Eastern Docks".

Hope this helps!

I understand that, but it seems to be Multiplayer. I have no problem in Singleplayer in routing trains to/from these locations, but the same trains in Multiplayer refuse to go in, and they have to be SPADded through.
