does any one know why signal 320 on the NLL sim has an auto button, but when you go to use it you get a message that you cannot use it on that route, [ whether you set the route to seven sisters or straight through the junction ]....? ?

Good question about this signal near South Tottenham on VW3, perhaps a question mfcooper could answer in detail.

However, I note that whilst on a Bristol multiplayer someone mentioned about the autos on Signals 19 and 62 near Parson Street which seem pointless but considering there is the line to Portbury, I looked on Google Maps and you can clearly see an old chord directly from the Up Main onto the Portbury Line so clearly there used to be a junction there. So with that in mind, I just looked on Google Maps and again you can clearly see an old chord directly from 'the Westbound line' towards Tottenham South Junction. Perhaps that might have something to do with it?

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.

On the Bristol simulation I would think that the reasons for the autos is there were junctions into west yard, not to Portbury as that line curves sharply away at Ashton gate.

Certainly doesn't apply on NLL. South Tottenham still has a signalbox, with a small NX panel (renewed, I believe, whe Harringay Park Jc was abolished). I cannot imagine there being a case for an auto button anywhere on that panel, it's not that busy, even with the enhanced T&H Line service; when I knew it (OK, a long time ago) it was graded B (which covered just-about everything busier than Neasden Midland) and the bobby had a very easy life, even on a heavy night shift.

Thanks for the info , I wonder if any one who wrote the sim can shed any light on signal 320 on NLL ? I could well understand the reason for an auto button but wonder if it it is a glitch on the sim?

The NLL seems to have far too many auto buttons - even the semaphores at the Kew Junctions have auto buttons on them.

The NLL in real life is controlled by a wide variety of means, some of which have the ability to put signals into auto, some like semaphore areas obviously don't. SimSig NLL is meant to be a "what if" scenario of an IECC-style interface onto the railway and as such contains auto buttons where they would likely exist in real life were it to be resignalled. Of course, since NLL was produced, it has been resignalled with part controlled by IECC.
