newbie needs advice please 26/10/2011 at 17:42 #22081

I haven't even got simulation yet and I need help!

I have been having a browse around the site looking for answers to a couple of questions before I get a couple of sims to run, couldn't find the answers, so I am hoping someone here can point me in the right direction or answer them for me. I know they are daft, but I may as well start out right.

1, I want to load the sims on both a PC [Win7 64bit] and a laptop [Vista 32bit]. I presume I have to download the system, help and simulations files twice, once for each machine? If it is twice do I need to make a donation twice too? Don't get me wrong I don't mind but it would be nice to know beforehand.
How do I backup the files if I need to re-install them for any reason?

2, Is there an easier way of printing out the user manuals? printing using Print Preview shows the scroll bar down the right hand side, plus if you are not careful, and check which page number you need then you could end up printing multiple pages of gumpf when you really only need the one.

Thanks for any help, I said they were daft!!

Donations are completely voluntary. You can download files without making a donation.

Download and install the system files on each computer. Then download the install file for the sims that you are interested in. Keep a copy of all the install files if you want to re-install them again later. (Sometimes install files are removed from the website.) Note that some of the very old sims will not install on a Windows 64-bit machine.

You can download extra timetables for each sim. The usual place for those is in folder C:\Program Files\SimSig\[name of sim] . Timetables files have two parts .WTT (the actual timetable) and .WTR (timetable rules - this part is optional). Other files you will see are .SSG (saved games).

Start with Royston sim. We all did!

Good Luck.

if you start off with the smaller sims then you probably wont need the manuals at all. as you progress to larger sims, then the manuals are there for you as you need them.

The making of a donation doesn't bother me, they made the simualation so i don't mind paying something towrds it.

I understand Royston is a good one to start off with but it is Worksop I really want as that is the area I work.

Thanks
