Wells, Yes I do and there are lots of them.... However, due to the way sims are developed, we don't discuss sims that are in development or when they may be released. The main reason is that as all the devs are volunteers and they only dedicate time to development as and when they can. As its a hobby, "real life" happens and family, job and other issues come up. This makes it really difficult to set release dates as its impossible to know how much time can be spent doing sim development work. Unfortunately, creating a sim is not a simple process and many, many hours go into them (and we are talking 1000's of hours here). As an example, I had a plan to update South Humberside. My plan was to release the update at the meet following its original release....well 6 months after that June meet and it's still being worked on....Its not due to lack of effort on my part but long hours at work, and health problems with a a close member of my family, amongst other issues, all take precedence over SimSig. Its not difficult to say sim X will be ready on such and such a date but history has proved that if, for whatever reason, the sim is not ready, there is then a stream of "when will it get released" questions. Rather than do that every time, we simply don't give any release dates out on new sims. For sims that are known to be in development, such as the update to South Humberside I mentioned, you'll see the answer to "when is it going to be ready" simply as "it will be ready when its ready" and that's the best we can do. This has nothing to do with release dates. Wells seems to be asking which new sims are in development. (unless I'm being really dense.) Log in to reply |

i think what lardybiker is saying is that due to the variable nature of sim development, its not good to say sim X is in development as it will simpy create further speculation and "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply |

If someone announces a sim in progress and then it doesn't happen or takes longer than expected then it will disappoint alot of people. Developers wish to avoid dashing people's hopes too. It's nothing to do with being intentionally secretive. It's just better than sims are'nt announced until they are complete or nearly so.

Personally, I quite like the surprise of a simulation I didn't know was even in development being released suddenly upon us all. One hell of a nice surprise! :cheer:

" said:This has nothing to do with release dates. Wells seems to be asking which new sims are in development......And I said lots .....Rather than just say something short, i.e "we don't usually discuss them", I'd thought I'd try and explain why we don't. I think JC92 and TomOF summed quite nicely what I said or maybe what I was trying to say. The upshot is it will be down the the individual developer as to whether they say anything but most keep what they are up to just between them and their testers. Log in to reply |
