Karma figures against user profiles 28/12/2011 at 10:01 #26321

Could someone explain to me what the Karma figure is that shows against the user profile. I note that some people have an 0 (me included) and others have positive numbers against them. One user seems to have a negative sign against his profile with rather a large number after it. What does it mean.
I know as you make more posts your job title goes up and have always wondered what the Karma figure is for.

People can click on the -/+ beside and this increments the score by one (either way).

Look you have 1 now!

It was the number of posts members made while the forum was under test using Karma.

No, it is exactly as Peter posted (I think he knows what he is talking about as he is a moderator!!)

Thanks for that, I take it that people are scoring others on the topic and it's content then. I think I would be a bit worried if I started getting too many negatives though and to avoid that I will stop right now.

Sorry, I stand corrected. My apologies.

It appears that members can hit the plus+ to applaud or hit the minus- to smite the particular message.

Just a few notes to add to this...

Seems like there is a 6 hour limit between the giving of Karma (in either the + ("applaud"or - ("smite"way). So, if I gave northroad + karma now, I'd have to wait for 6 hours before I can give anyone else any karma (again, in either the + or - way).

You can't + ("applaud"someone then - ("smite"to take it back, even if you've made a mistake. Once you've given it then that is it.

Personally, I give + karma when I agree with or appreciate something someone said or did (sometimes given as an addition to thanking them by clicking on "Thank you"and I give - karma when I disagree with something someone said or did / has done.

Any views and / or opinions expressed by myself are from me personally and do not represent those of any company I either work for or am a consultant for.
