I have noticed a number or SimSig members thinking about a simulation where mechanical boxes are in use. So perhaps could do the lines around South Lincolnshire where plenty of mechanical boxes still operate. The lines consist of the Spalding line from the rail flyover at Sleaford to where SimSig Peterborough takes over. The line from Allington Junction, where SimSig Trent & (hopefully) Doncaster takes over to Sleaford Main station, which also connects to the flyover. The rest of the branchline from Sleaford to Boston and right through to Skegness. We obviously can't go north of Ruskington (North of Sleaford) to Lincoln because of Lincoln Westcad (obviously a no-go area for SimSig - although I have no idea where its boarders are). The line between Sleaford & the Sibsey area do have single line sections so controllers will have to watch routing from some areas like Sleaford, Heckington, Hubbert's Bridge, Boston and the Sibsey area, The lines also have plenty of level crossings to deal with, which includes automatic half barriers, push-button full barriers (some with CCTV), manual push gates and wheel gates. Remember that because of the nature of the area, traffic can be light in prototypical sence. What do you think? Log in to reply |

As a Sleafordian (imported) I reckon that sim would be very useful. Shame regarding the Lincoln line. Were you hinking modern era or mid 80's? Would it be feasible to include (the now defunct line Sleaford/Bourne and perhaps the old MOD line Sleaford/ HMS Daedulus (better known now as RAFC Cranwell!

Although some of the sims do have mechanical boxes in them (such as the ones done in the SimSig Scotland areas and some on the East Notts area of the Trent sim), there are some areas which are still under mechenical or semi-mechanical control. I thought it would be a nice idea to simulate such areas and you know SimSiggers, they always want more and a more selection of mechanical controlled areas can go a long way .

I did once consider the possibility of a 'what if' simulation with the East Lincs and Mablethorpe routes and March-Spalding still open but set in the modern day. All of those level crossings would have been interesting to do.

Looks quite cool KurtDS, that's exactly what I was thinking of. I have gone quite speechless with the screenshot.

When I saw it on Saturday night I think I actually had a wee tear in my eye as I thought about my Summer Saturday trips down there in the 80's. Looking forward to a typical KurtDS 80's era timetable already! Oh the nostalgia!!!
