No one else seems to have mentioned this, so here goes. I've got 6J23 running towards Cleethorpes to stable in the down siding. It passed Grimsby a little before 06.00, so I ran it into the Grimsby Dock U/DPL in order to allow 2F81 (06.01 to Barton-on-Humber) to pass. Now when I try to get 6J23 out of the loop by setting a route from P1000 to P984, I get "route not available". I have tried lowering the Fish Dock barriers before setting the route but it still doesn't like it. It looks like the only way to get 6J23 out is to set the points and tell the driver to pass it at danger. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm doing wrong here? Log in to reply |

I've done the same thing but had no problems, i usually wait until 2F81 has come to a stand at Grimsby Town then send 6J23 on it's way

Now as it happens, I have a train waiting at the reversing point to go back into Cleethorpes. I should have thought of that shouldn't I, being a train driver and everything ...

Should be possible to let something out of the loop as soon as the opposing move has passed clear of the Cleethorpes end of the loop, I'd have thought. That was my experience on the only occasion that I've on a train put 'inside' there anyway - we were away as soon as the unit ex-Cleethorpes had passed us if I remember rightly. I wouldn't expect the single line to have to be proved clear right through to Cleethorpes either, as long as anything already on the single line has entered from the Grimsby end (so not relevant in this case). Obviously the route shouldn't be available if anything has been signalled in from the Cleethorpes end! Tom Edited in light of the post immediately before this: and that's the problem! The movement has been signalled onto the single line from the Cleethorpes end, thus locking the whole lot in the opposite direction... as I'm sure you understand now! Log in to reply |

The opposing direction is locked out when the DoFI (Direction of Flow Indicator) is lit for the single line section, including when a shunt move is occupying one end.

The movement I had signalled to the rev point was still in the platform waiting to go, so I assume that it would have to move up to the reversing point, and the TCs time out at the very least before I could set a route from P1000. All sorted now anyway. Log in to reply |

Until it was completely clear of the single line (i.e. it had moved back into the station), the whole single line would be 'locked' in the Down direction (indicated by the direction of flow indicator(s), as Andy says).
