Interesting thing.. 30/01/2012 at 19:16 #28443

First day back at university today, and I did my usual route (Wolverhampton to Worcester), I decided to go via New Street and get the Hereford train.

Now, usually this is a Class 170, however, to my surprise it was a 2 car 150! (150109)
I enjoyed the nostalgia, but it made me wonder where all the London Midland 170's have gone too as I've never seen this before other than when I used to travel on the Snow Hill line?

Also, when I was waiting for my return trip at Foregate St., the same 150 came back through (16:24) to New Street, followed by a 170 coupled with a 153 to Hereford.

Has something happened to the 170's or am I missing something?

Since the introduction of the class 172s on the Snow Hill lines London Midland have cascaded most of the class 150s to other operators. They have however kept a couple of units.

There is a 150 Hereford diagram.

06.28 wos - nst,
07.19 nst - gmv,
08.38 gmv - nst
09.49 nst - hfd,
11.40 hfd - nst,
13.49 nst - hfd,
15.40 hfd - nst.
17.59 nst - gmv,
ecs to wos lmd.

A 150 also does a diagram on the Bedford - Bletchley route.

There are two (I think) 170 + 153 diagrams that run most days now, for extra capacity. I saw one at New Street on Friday night on a Shrewsbury turn.

Hope that helps.

Yes, im fully aware of the 172's on the Snow Hill line, but was just curious why they still had a 150 on the diagram and using it on the Hereford service?

The reason it's on that diagram I assume is for traction retention knowledge. The main reason for keeping the 150s is for the Bedford - Bletchley route. Tyseley men need to keep the traction knowledge as Tyseley is where the 150s are maintained. Hope that makes sense.

That's what I thought, Thanks for that.

I also thought it was my bad day when I saw it at New Street..

Surely running it on a Worcester Diagram means that it is largely operated by Worcester crews - it will need a part way through the day swap for maintenace as well as it's tied to Worcester depot on that diagram.
