Place the "wav" files in the Simsig folder. In a sim go to Options (F3) and select Messages. You can then allocate a sound to the various messages. Barry Barry, Sydney, New South Wales, Australia Log in to reply The following user said thank you: Ben86 |

This seems like a good place to ask how many of you use sounds at all, and if so, which ones you find the most useful. For my part, I've enabled sounds for Train entering system and Train ready to start, but the more I add, the less prototypical it would be, since AFAIK signallers work in quiet rooms with only telephones to disturb them. Phone is another. Future Sims will have some additional sound/message options for developer use like for instance the alarms on Edinburgh and the block bells on NESCOT (latter currently not available). At the moment these are done by hijacking other sound/message options. Peter I identify as half man half biscuit - crumbs! Log in to reply |

Excellent collection of pics thanks. Anyone who has never been inside a PSB and wonders what a real panel looks like should go through the series, all 111 pics. Listened closely to each, even turned up the volume, but didn't hear a sound. All the same, I believe you Home page. I'll add this to Wiki Links page. Steamer said in post #2 of How useful are Simplifiers?: Quote: The Simplifier can be helpful for checking platform conflicts should you need to re-platform anything, and no doubt others use it for other things. Real signallers have simplifiers for some locations- I remember seeing one on some photos of Doncaster PSB. That thread has been locked but this is the pic you meant. " said:This seems like a good place to ask how many of you use sounds at all, and if so, which ones you find the most useful.I've loaded up Euston (one of the latest simulations, so that it has the latest range of Message Events), so here goes: I've listed the Message Event along with a link to what I believe is the sound effect itself, and I've colourised them as they are in the simulation too. I have omitted the Message Events that do not have a sound alert. Trackside Equipment Failure - TRTS Might be a TRTS sound effect, but I think it's apt at drawing my attention to a failure. Train waiting at red signal - IECC 'beep' Also used for Train still waiting at red signal too. Can't immediately recall ever having either of these go off though?? Wrong route set for train - IECC 'beep' Apt sound effect, again to draw my attention to it. General telephone message (white) - Phone - Train entering system - Whistle May seem odd to use this one for this, but at the end of the day I don't have a use for it otherwise as very few if any simulations are of signalboxes on or near enough to the platforms to hear the whistle go off. And, again, it's good at drawing my attention to it. Funnily enough, someone who works on the railway themselves at a station once heard this sound effect go off and made a remark that it was like being back at work Train ready to start - TRTS 2 Also used for Train ready in siding. Warning of delayed train entering the area (white) - IECC 'beep' - Slot release/request - DING1 from Dings.zip. Originally used Slot Ping, but recently-ish changed it for this one whilst playing on a simulation where this Message Event is heavily used - which can get slightly annoying after a while. Level crossing clear - IECC 'beep' - Multiplayer Message (white) - Blip Of-course So that's the lot for me. I recall not long after I had downloaded and set all these sound effects, it didn't take very long at all to realise the benefit of doing it. I think one remark I may have made on a multiplayer session near the time was that it really enhanced the simulations having them set up. So, to conclude this probably very long post now, I thoroughly recommend setting up some sound effects for yourselves. Enjoy! i have TRTS for TRTS and train ready in siding. the iecc blip is for crossing down (i dont know why its that one), which proves useful on larger sims i used to have 2 tings for train entering system, however i now have an AWS clear sound i use an AWS caution sound for a signalling failure telephone for telephone "We don't stop camborne wednesdays" Log in to reply The following user said thank you: maxand |

The only sounds that the panel generates at work are... * Train Entering from an adjacent signal box * Slot given by adjacent signal box * Emergency Alarms However, there always seems to be a telephone or fax ringing, a printer printing, or lots of banter between the signallers going on. UKTrainMan said:Train waiting at red signal - IECC 'beep'To the best of my knowledge, they are only given to the Host of a multiplayer Sim when a driver rings a client. It's a bit like the Wrong Route Set For Train message, which is given to clients when a driver rings in because of a wrong route. Thanks mfcooper for that interesting post. On the subjct of 'real world' sounds, I've always wondered what a SPAD alarm sounds like? Yes, the OSTO alarm, the same one we heard in a training simulator and the real thing.

IECC will also generate sounds for SSI alarms (faults) and track circuits occupying or clearing out of sequence. There can also be annunciators programmed for when trains hit a certain point, but this is done at the design stage and the signallers cannot alter where or if these go off. Log in to reply |

So which settings and sounds do you all use to make the simulation as "real" as possible? I also wondering if real controllers have a message box and train list (like in SimSig)?

I am relatively new to SimSig and have recently purchased the York North/South simulation. I have tried several times to add sound effects for things like TRTS, telephone calls and train approaching/strike-in but have had no success. Would anyone be so kind as to talk me through the process and maybe advise me where I am going wrong? Many thanks for any help offered.
