Today I bring you bad news, a week ago Friday, I was diagnosed with cancer. Acute lymphoblastic leukaemia to be exact, I am not going for treatment as the odds are stacked against me. Please don't badger me into changing my mind because I am at peace with myself. So what does this mean in terms of how long I have left. The docs reckon 4-6 weeks, so I intend to go out with wild parties which I have had one already so that was good. Can't think of what else to say so I will sign off now and speak later

Joe_T, Not sure where you are getting your diagnosis from, as with treatment, more than 9 out of 10 adults (90%) with ALL will go into remission. My youngest sister has just finished chemotherapy for non-hodgkins lymphoma and only found at when it got to stage 3b - it IS possible to fight it IF you did change your mind. But I am not badgering you - she said sod it to start with and absolutely hated the treatment! This website front page will give you much good advice either way:- MacMillan Nurses and this goes into a lot more detail: A.L.L. The doctors at the hospital and my GP and I trust my GP more than the docs at the hospital. Also what I have read in a Macmillan booklet has helpped me make up my mind. Thank you for telling me about your sister and I hope the Chemo works for her but one thing I havn't mentioned and don't wish to go into details. I have suffered enough at the hands of hospital through one thing or another and now I have lost the fight to go on that is why I have come to the decision I have.

Joe, Sorry to hear your news. I have had much hassle with GPs over some of the last 5 years or so but fortunately the hospital care was great. Respect for your decision though but I can only guess what is on the mind of you and yours. Good idea to go out and party as much as possible too: I think I would do the same. Joe, cancer comes close to home with me, you've made your decision and I respect your determination to "go out with a bang". My thoughts are with you and your family over the coming weeks. Jeez, I'm so so sorry to hear about this. I cannot imagine how hard it must have been to hear about this in the first place, but regardless my thoughts are absolutely with you and yours over the undoubtedly sometimes tough upcoming weeks. Whilst I may not be able to agree with your decision, I completely and utterly respect it and I'm not going to go and try to persuade you to change your mind. On the up side, I'm liking how you want to 'go out with a bang'. I am genuinely going to miss you - it has always been a pleasure to 'work with you' in the 'box during the various multiplayer sessions we've both been on at the same time. Goodbye my colleague (fellow SimSigger) and friend, you will be thoroughly missed by myself, and I'm sure others too. Joe, We have never met, but I am very sorry to hear this. I have had my own battles with cancer, although fortunately with a rather more positive prognosis than yours. Do get in touch with Macmillan. They really are angels from heaven. They won't badger you into changing your mind but they will give you, and any others close to you, practical and emotional help and support. They also unblocked a few administrative problems at the hospital for me, too. Best wishes Log in to reply |

Joe, Your decision proves that bravery comes in many different forms, it is certainly brave to make a decision like yours, and one which I can truly respect and understand. I hope you really do enjoy your time left, and you will be missed.

The fact that you're still getting out to go take photographs of trains is quite inspiring really. This is also all I can really think of writing at the moment. Thanks for the update though, has somewhat put my mind at rest, for the time being at least. Hi all, sorry I not told you sooner I wanted to keep this quiet till it was confirmed and now it is. I have had a changfe of mind with regards treatment and I am going for Chemo which will start either Tuesday or Wednesday. I will be in hospital for the next 4-6 weeks solid so no SimSig for me which will be hell but I got myself an iPad recently which has got some good stuff on it and I am allowed to take my ps3 in which needs to be electrically tested which hopefully that will be done tomorrow. I have taken some games in and some DVD's, so I should be reasonably entertained PLUS I got full freeview for free on a normal telly which is ACE that is how I am plugging my PS3 in :) Take care Joe Log in to reply The following user said thank you: UKTrainMan |
