Hello, this thread is basically for anyone who wants to mention what they want next on SimSig. This can be simulations, features etc.
I'll start of with a idea for a simulation which is the Cardiff Valley Lines. A map which sort of shows this is included (from Wikipedia).

id like to see a welsh sim covered, like newport (chainable to gloucester?) or cardiff, if only to enjoy listening to people attempt pronounciation on teamspeak...

No Joe we want a North Wales sim so we can listen to people attempt to pronounce : Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

if a north wales sim was produced (i prefer the NWC actually) would there also be the need to provide the welsh names in brackets? valley is way too english.

interesting timetable locations:

Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch signal x (rev) :)

doesnt work as its a crossing box unfortunatley

And all you would ever see in the timetable screen would be Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgoge so you would never know if it was a reverse there or anything

I can only remember it being pronounced as "....and all stations to Holyhead"

It is Llanfair PG to most people, as it's easier to say that than Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch...

In the Station Index and in Table 81 of the National Rail eTimetable issued by Network Rail it shows as Llanfairpwll.

It also shows as Llanfairpwll in the April 1 2009 Baseline Declaration which is extracted from the Sectional Appendix. The LC 8 chains from the station in the Up direction shows as Llanfair LC (MCG).

It I indeed shortened to Llanfairpwll in most publications. Which is a shame really.

There is however a very welshy Shrewsbury based guard who makes a point of announcing it in full :woohoo:

There are 4 things that are required for any simulation to be done....
1) It can't be on the 'cannot do list' - See the Wiki for details of those
2) We would need very detailed information on the area
3) There needs to be a developer who is interested to take on the project....
4) ....and said developer has time to dedicate to it bearing in mind it can take several years to get a sim to a releasable stage (South Humberside took 5 years!!)

(1) is easy to check and generally (3) isn't a problem. Usually, the problems are (2) and (4), getting the data required and finding a developer whose got the time to dedicate to it. There is a lot of detailed data required to build a sim and without it the project won't go anywhere. As for the developers time, I think I can speak for the other developers as well as myself when I say we are all very busy with various SimSig projects. Nothing stands still much in the world of SimSig ...Trust me

Guys, As an idea it took me 3 months to get a version of North Wales Coast into testing mode for Railway Operations Simulator, which does not need a lot of data to get a basic sim working (but to make it accurate I went and did a lot of research). It'll take more time for a SimSig

Hi all,

Would just like to add to this, I would really appreciate a Cardiff and Valleys sim. I would be able to help out with timetabling etc. PM me if I can help.

And does anyone have a decent signalling diagram for South Wales / Valleys / Marches line?

Thanks,

Andy

That's not what the FAQ says (although the title of the page is a little misleading)

Have lloked at that page. It seems to suggest that Newport can't be simulated but says nothing of the rest of South Wales. If South Wales can't be done then time for someone other than Geoff to get the data by another means and work on it independently methinks.

Or would that be impossible as well? If someone could get hold of the relevant diagrams then all could be well perhaps.

Dave

I think we've been down the "can't someone other than Geoff get the data?" route before, and I think the outcome was that doing so would be sailing a bit too close to the wind. In any case, the Conflict of Interest page clearly states:

Wiki said:
There are legal sanctions that can be deployed if Geoff doesn't observe these restrictions (Intellectual Property Law and Employment Law are both involved), which could see Geoff being sued for damages in addition to losing his job. Geoff very sensibly takes the view that, although there is the potential to work right up to the boundaries, he wishes to keep a clear margin so there can be no possibility of problems arising.

Please respect these restrictions, including any decision Geoff takes to not work too close to the boundaries.
