In the F3 menu, make sure 'display all shunt signals' is ticked.

for trains exiting eastcroft TMD, only the left hand shunt signal (261) needs to be cleared

This is one of the questions that comes up again and again with new players - and lots of sims/timetables are unplayable without using shunt signals because of things like sidings. Has anyone ever mooted having that box ticked by default, with an option to turn it off if you know what the implication is?

When I started reading this post, I thought exactly the same thing.

i dont actually understand why that option exists as i cant understand anyone needing, or wanting to turn it off, however im quite open to anyone explaining the advantages

When I first started playing SimSig, I started on Southampton and for many months whenever I had to shunt a train i would just PSAD each signal that was invisible to me - I was too scared to ask on the forum

I think this stems from Simsig's origin as an IECC simulator. Real IECCs have both overview and detail views. I guess that in order to simplify things a bit (and probably because the overview layout takes up less screen space as well), Simsig's screen layout is based on that of the overview screens of the real thing.
As a compromise, you can then choose to show some of the features of the detail view, like point positions, track circuit breaks, and of course the shunt signals via the Settings dialogue.
Having said that, having the shunt signals to be shown by default does seem a sensible idea.

Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick.
