1N16 decided to give me a nice little present just past Peterborough (PBRO) on the Down while I had two trains waiting to use the crossovers from/to PBRO Yard. Now probably gotta wait an hourwith the Up from Ketton to PBRO blocked. Screenshot below.

Perhaps saw the double-yellows and wasn't best pleased!

Unless you've had a failure, a couple of your stickies are unnecessarily restricting you. All 4 ECML lines are electrified not just the middle 2. The Up Stamford/Slow is not electrified between Helpston and New England North (or maybe even Peterborough Station) as per this image showing a steam special on the Down Stamford/Slow near Werrington Junction in 2011 under the wires but no overhead on the reverse line. However, all of the actual ECML lines including the Up Slow on the East side of the tracks and the Down Stamford/Slow on the West side are electrified.

I just do it for some simple route knowledge. I get the information from F2 during play. Once or twice I'll have a look to see what is seemingly just Diesel and what I know is AC and just update it when I see AC elsewhere but I only do it a few times during my play.

Thank you for that. I'll amend likewise to that play and add that to my current play to aid my route knowledge (only just started Difficult version IIRC).

And thanks as well with the 3rd Up track in that section originating from Stamford.

I did wonder after posted though of whether we might perhaps have a general thread with interesting Track Circuit Failures (of course in the General section) but that's probably up to admin to decide.

This thread.

:)

I think the best idea from that was UKTM's idea of just a long thread - like the "Guess the Location" one at the moment.

I'd say that's a disaster rather than a nice surprise...

Is it possible to make 6M56 use the up lines instead?

At the very least you should bring 1N16 to a stand, and when the driver rings in make him walk back and apologize to the two freight drivers.

Never sprang to mind (obviously I haven't been a part of the forum for long enough - wait a couple of years ). I've obviously been in it before because I actually made a few posts in there, but at least a few months old.

The only way to get around it would be to attach extra locomotives at the back to allow reverse running out of PBRO Yard from the Up side and cross it over straight into PBRO Goods where the extra locos would detach and the original Down locos then take over running the freight from Goods straight to Ketton. Even if you wanted to, I think the Up and Down entrances/exits are sim exit points so the train would disappear with reverse running (if you intended the train to reverse and come out the other end).

Reason: got Up/Down mixed at one point. All fixed.

You'd have to make a new train in the timetable editor that entered at the Up end of the yard.

Yes but it would run at no more than 40mph. It almost certainly wouldn't be allowed in real life because of all the level crossings.

Single Line Working. Even in the days of Old BR, when there were likely to be staff available, that wasn't a thing lightly to be undertaken. The only time I knew it happen other than for preplanned engineering was to get the St Austell Motorail away from Kensington when there was a derailment in the morning that blocked the down lines. On that occasion the Area Manager came out in person to act as Responsible Officer & Pilotman (the rules were a little more involved in those days, but it's still a mighty palaver) and SLW was used for that train only and no other. It certainly was never used to get round a TCF.

Mind you, in the days of Old BR there would be staff around who could be called out to hand-crank points locked by the failure and allow traffic to be moved that way.

Nowadays, the time taken to set up SLW would be disproportionate in the case of a TCF, and as KBarber states, you are unlikely to find the staff!
