As many older SimSiggers know, I have been fighting for the removal of this level crossing for the last 6 years.... it is the last level crossing on an A road over the ECML between Kings Cross and Edinburgh and causes chaos for road users throughout the day. B) This was why I joined up to SimSig - to be able to use the Peterborough sim to demonstrate the constant problems here plus what would happen under greater loading of the system if more TOCs were allowed more paths. As a direct result, I am happy to report that Network Rail are undertaking a feasibility study this week to install a bridge - 100 metres to the north and link roads back to the A16 (now A1175!) by December 2013. Obviously their decision to upgrade the diversionary route and gauge clear it from Werrington to Doncaster via Lincoln and re-route all diesel hauled freight from the ECML helped. This would allow at least a further 20 passenger train paths a day over 'my' crossing - virtually closing it all day - rather than just the 7.5 hours a day now! They are showing their plans at a Public Consultation meeting on the 26th June in our village hall between 2pm & 8pm. I will be updating my avatar as soon as possible Ken Last edited: 01/06/2012 at 06:07 by Tallington Log in to reply The following users said thank you: sunocske, derbybest, Sam Tugwell, guidomcc, officer dibble, Poshfc, birchy74 |

Hazzah! Finally. I hate using that crossing and try and avoid it by using the Helpston Crossing, which is just as bad personally. I'll be thankful for the day it be gone.

Just to record this momentous occasion for posterity I am repeating my shoutbox message here! xm A Network Rail presentation took place here on Tuesday. 240 people attended and saw the plans for a rail bridge over the tracks just north of Tallington Level Crossing on the ECML and the A16/A1175. With an expected completion date between Dec 2013 and March 2014 it will allow the level crossing to be permanently closed! Our local paper has an article on their website here - Stamford Mercury The home page should carry an updated report as from today. Enjoy.....
