I was talking to Andy G last night and he was telling about visiting the Exeter west box at Crewe, which got me thinking, I have yet to see any of the route i regularly travel heading to Manchester. Hollyhead - Manchester via a change at Crewe or Bangor. So i was thinking a Manchester picadilly or Crewe sim would be good.

It's deja-vu again! Manchester discussed here.

ah I was unaware that Manchester had been disscused, the route I am talking about i belive also consists of Chester, Crewe, Bangor, Llundudno and Hollyhead. Is there any plans for these? I would suspect Hollyhead would not be worth doing.

When you say PSB do you mean London Road (the OCS panel) or Piccadilly SCC (the present one)? London Road would be fun, especially with the 1500V DC wiring on the East Side (I don't know what alterations were made, if any, when the remains of Woodhead were converted to 25kV).

Thanks TomOF, that would have been my guess. But they will presumably have wired all the crossovers that couldn't be wired when there were separate systems and they might have provided additional signalled routes when they did, to increase flexibility of working. It's not my part of the world so that is pure speculation.

kbarber said:But they will presumably have wired all the crossovers that couldn't be wired when there were separate systems There was a discussion on uk.railway about this, and some people said that the crossovers between the DC and AC area were wired with a short insulating section in the middle. Two million people attempt to use Birmingham's magnificent rail network every year, with just over a million of them managing to get further than Smethwick. Log in to reply |

You would have the Piccadilly area controlled by Piccadilly PSB, then stockport area controlled from converted mechanical boxes, then semaphore onto the Hope vally.

I don'k think any alterations where made to the trackwork at the time judging from pictures I've seen. There where however major changes when it was resignalled.
