Just seen this on the Luukland website

Quote:
End of Luukland's
25 July 21:22
“"Every Beginning Has An End" are the wise words of the oracle in the movie Matrix. Recognizing the bitter truth in this quote makes me melancholic.” Quoting the inspiring Kurt in 2009, the end of his servers.

We could use this last few lines to thank the openttd development team for their hard work in the past years. But we would be lying. The only people we would like to thank, are the players and moderator team of Luukland’s. We used to like the development on Transport Tycoon . But with time comes wisdom and with their sozzy little noses and gigantic attitude, they have tried to work against us. Starting from the release of 1.0.0, every patch we ever posted was “fixed”, and had to be recoded completely. In the free- and open-source business a very sad occurrence. Bottomline: “We didn’t like them and it is safe to assume vice versa”. This gave us the brand: “closed-source-pirates”, which we stayed till the end.

There are many causes, why we have decided to toss the towel, but most important is the fact, that time is limited. Due to changing economic situations and live-changing jobs, it is impossible to keep Luukland’s on the quality level, we have aimed for since the very first beginning. The high level of gaming experience and enjoyment on Luukland’s servers couldn’t be maintained. As gratefulness we will keep some stuff like rankings online, until their time has come.

We know that you will miss us, but do not grief! Some other community might arise and survive the test of time! On friday the 24th of august all services will be shutdown just around 22.00 GMT+2 (CET).

For your information:

It appears that Novapolis, the sucessor to Luukland.net, is starting up tonight at 20:00 CEST. No, I have no idea what that is in GMT.

Unfortunately it's a Toyland special event, but at least it means decent CB servers will be available soon.

They have a temporary website up at http://www.novapolis.net/ where it looks like the classic six server rotation will be in eventual use.

It seems you have now lost the chance to transfer old Luukland accounts (assuming they met the activity threshold for preservation); but new accounts can be registered.

Which is one hour ahead of current UK time, seeing as we're still on BST.
